Youth Ministry Coordinator

St. Margaret Mary Catholic Community, in Louisville, is seeking a passionate, highly talented and competent individual to help us achieve our mission to be disciples who know, love and serve God. This individual will work in a highly collaborative environment with the director of lifelong formation, children’s formation coordinator and parish school staff to meet the spiritual needs of our youth and young adults. High expectations for performance and competence in ministerial and administrative responsibilities will be required.


The Youth Ministry Coordinator will oversee the development of a vibrant junior high and high school youth ministry by providing for meaningful and highly substantive formation opportunities rooted in scripture, the teachings of Christ and his Church. Formation opportunities will include bible studies, lectionary studies, prayer experiences, retreats, youth group meetings and classroom instruction. Will provide for retreat experiences for individual grades (e.g. 6th grade boys retreat, 7th grade girls retreat).

Will facilitate participation in One Bread, One Cup Liturgical Leadership Conference (or other appropriate youth liturgical leadership conference) for high school youth and will provide for their integration into liturgical leadership roles following conference attendance.

Ensure that youth are provided with formation opportunities that flow from parish wide catechetical and formation initiatives (e.g. message series, Lent 4.5, stewardship renewal, and liturgical catechesis). Will ensure that evangelization, especially among marginalized youth, is a high priority. Will develop dynamic and highly interactive formation programs for young adults.

Support the development of the athletics ministry through the Play Like a Champion Today (P.L.A.C.T.) program or other appropriate athletics ministry programs. Lead workshops and trainings for parents, coaches and students.


Ensure that parish youth are fully integrated into the life of the parish by working with the Youth Formation Committee (Children’s Formation Coordinator, School Principal, School Counselor and Director of Lifelong Formation) and school staff.

Ensure that older youth receive adequate formation in preparation for the sacraments of initiation (Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist).

Ensure that youth and young adults are integrated into the worship of the parish community by facilitating their involvement in liturgical ministries as ushers, lectors, cantors, eucharistic ministers and choir members.

Explore developing a liturgy based youth ministry program.


Facilitate junior high youth participation in Just Five Days (or other appropriate program) service learning experiences.

Facilitate high school youth participation in Young Neighbors in Action (or other appropriate program) service learning experiences.

Facilitate youth and young adult involvement in service opportunities in the broader community; in particular facilitate their involvement in organizations and missions that are supported by the whole parish (e.g. Franciscan shelter, Hearts in Motion, Water with Blessings, etc )

Facilitate alternative spring break or other service learning experiences for young adults.


Must be a committed and practicing Catholic in good standing. Must possess a clear understanding of the Catholic faith with the skills to evangelize youth and form intentional disciples who are engaged in their communities. Qualification is a master’s degree or the equivalent (or the ability and strong desire to pursue one). Candidate must have significant in-depth experience in teaching, engaging and mentoring youth and young adults.

Must be highly skilled with social media.
