URGENT REQUEST
November 7, 2009
Please immediately call and ask your U.S. representative, Rep. Sam Johnson, to SUPPORT the Stupak-Pitts Amendment to the health care bill, HR 3962. The vote is expected later TODAY, Saturday, Nov. 7! Pro-abortion Democratic Speaker Nancy Pelosi (CA) plans to try to ram her massive, pro-abortion health care bill, HR 3962 (previously HR 3200), through the U.S. House of Representatives. The most critical roll call will occur on the pro-life Stupak-Pitts Amendment, which would prohibit the new programs created by the bill from subsidizing elective abortions by explicitly excluding abortion coverage. If the Stupak-Pitts Amendment fails, we will witness the greatest expansion of abortion in this country in the 36 years since Roe v. Wade.
A vote on final passage of the bill is currently scheduled for late Saturday. Even if you already called Rep. Johnson, please call again. See a sample message below. Check www.TexasAllianceforLife.org or call 512.477.1244 for updates. SAMPLE MESSAGE: Please call U.S. Rep. Johnson as soon as possible on Saturday, Nov. 7!
Rep. Sam Johnson – 202.225.4201 (The best time to call is between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Central Time.)

BACKGROUND
- In an unexpected turn of events early Saturday morning, the House Rules Committee voted to allow consideration of the pro-life Stupak-Pitts Amendment to HR 3962. There is little doubt that this is the result of a tidal wave of calls from pro-life citizens into the U.S. Capitol. Speaker Pelosi’s plan had been to deny a vote on the Stupak-Pitts Amendment.
- The amendment proposed by U.S. Rep. Bart Stupak (D-MI) and U.S. Rep. Joe Pitts (R-PA) would prevent subsidies for abortions under two big new federal programs created by the bill. In an excellent article describing the dramatic change, LifeNews.com reports that Douglas Johnson from National Right to Life said, “This will be one of the most important roll call votes that U.S. House members ever casts on a pro-life issue. Any lawmaker who votes against the Stupak-Pitts Amendment is, in effect, voting in favor of establishing a federal government program that will directly fund abortion on demand, with federal funds.”
- Texas has 32 U.S. representatives – 20 Republicans and 12 Democrats. We believe that all 20 Republicans will likely support the Stupak-Pitts Amendment to HR 3962. It is critical that all 12 Democrats receive a large number of calls from their own constituents to support the Stupak-Pitts Amendment.
