Update: Baby Chloe Goes Home To Foster Family After Being Abandoned In A Walmart Bag Last Week

How sweet! I’m so glad to hear baby “Chloe” is doing well and has been placed with a foster family until a permanent forever home is found for her. Police are still searching for the mother who abandoned her, or the father, after she was left outside an apartment complex in Houston last week.

While Texas has a Safe Baby Program, the parents should be charged with neglect and abandonment, but it doesn’t sound like police are planning to press any charges if they can get the parents to come forward and provide any medical history about the family so that the adoptive family will know. If that’s what it takes to get them to come forward and give baby “Chloe” a chance at a healthy and happy future then great. However, it would have been horrible if she would have died and nobody was charged with her death and abandonment.

“HOUSTON — The baby who was found last week in a plastic Walmart bag is ready to go home. Baby “Chloe” was found outside a Cypress apartment complex Tuesday night after a woman’s dog picked up on a scent. “She was very healthy… didn’t have a fever,” said Estella Olguin with CPS. “Fortunately, she did not suffer from being exposed to the elements that evening.” Chloe spent the last week at Texas Children’s Hospital where doctors say she was likely found just hours after she was abandoned. Now CPS is looking for the girl’s mother or father. Officials say the parents don’t have to claim her — they just want more information. “Our role is that this baby can be placed with relatives,” said Olguin. “And so the person who is adopting this baby can have some more genetic family medical background on the baby to be able to raise her with more knowledge or information about her.” ©2008-2012 Patricia Garza (520)
