JOB TITLE: Tribunal Coordinator
DEPARTMENT/OFFICE: Office of the Tribunal
SUPERVISOR: Judicial Vicar
STATUS: Full time, Exempt
I. GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Assists with the writing of judicial memos and sentences of the Tribunal in consultation with the Judicial Vicar; also assists with other Tribunal matters in collaboration with the Judicial Vicar; maintains Tribunal documents and promotes effective processing of cases; promotes effective communication with all involved in Tribunal activities; teaches in various settings (such as in lay ministry and diaconate program, and parish programs).
II. ESSENTIAL DUTIES
A. Serves as Collegiate Judge in Diocesan Tribunal and Court of Second Instance.
B. Writes tribunal cases; or serves as ponens in a collegiate trial as directed by the Judicial Vicar.
C. Under the direction of the Judicial Vicar, responds to communications with other dioceses regarding the processing of cases and related issues.
D. Holds an appropriate canonical office and functions actively in that capacity.
E. Performs related duties as required; such as conducting interview with Petitioners, Respondents and witnesses.
III. COLLABORATIVE RELATIONSHIPS
A. The Tribunal Coordinator is directly accountable to and evaluated by the Judicial Vicar.
B. The Tribunal Coordinator provides office management, supervision, and administrative direction to the secretary.
C. The Tribunal Coordinator collaborates with diocesan staff for diocesan-wide events and interacts with pastors, pastoral administrators, parish and diocesan employees, and the community at large.
IV. WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed primarily in an office setting. Employee is required to do extensive close computer work. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, talk, reach, sit, hear, and use repetitive motion of the hands/wrists and feet, and have the ability to lift up to 20 pounds. Occasional off -site
meetings and diocesan events; some evenings and weekends may be required.
A. In full communion with the Roman Catholic Church and possessing at least a JCL.
C. Prior Tribunal experience preferable, including knowledge and experience in computerized environment, especially use of TMS.
D. Established characteristics relative to confidentiality, communication skills, and administrative ability.
E. Willingness to assist co-workers in order to advance the mission of the Diocese.
F. Conveys compassion and thoughtfulness, while maintaining professional decorum. (92)
