Position: School Principal
Reports to: Parish Pastor
Time Commitment: Full-Time
Position Supervises: All School Administrative Staff, Teachers, and Students
Budget Management: Yes
Compensation Structure: Base Salary (commensurate with experience), plus a
Performance-Based Bonus Package [FLSA: Exempt]
Scope of Position:
The St. Joan of Arc School Principal serves as the educational leader and chief administrator to 50 teachers and staff, and more than 400 students from pre-school through 8th grade.
This individual’s primary role is to create an environment dedicated to the threefold purpose of Catholic Education:
To teach the message revealed by God, which the Church proclaims
To build community in the life of the Holy Spirit
To serve others
Additionally, the School Principal is responsible for implementing and managing the policies, regulations, and procedures of the Diocese of Toledo. These duties will ensure all students are supervised in a safe, child-centered, learning environment that meets or exceeds the State Core Curriculum Content Standards. Achieving academic excellence requires that the Principal work closely with all members of the school staff to advance their professional growth and to communicate effectively with parents, members of the Parish community, and colleagues in other schools. Inherent in the position are the responsibilities for planning, curriculum development, program evaluation, extracurricular activities, personnel management, financial management, emergency procedures, resource scheduling, and facilities operations. Striking a balance between innovation and administration will be a cornerstone of this position.
Job Functions & Responsibilities:
Organize, manage, and evaluate effective and clear procedures for the operation and functioning of the entire school consistent with the mission, values, and goals of the Parish.
Develop, organize, manage, and evaluate a curriculum (and other instructional programs) that continuously inspires and challenges the students, fosters critical and creative thinking, and ultimately instills a love for life-long learning.
Organize, manage, and evaluate discipline systems to ensure a safe and orderly environment.
Manage budgets and practice fiscal responsibility.
Organize, manage, and evaluate school personnel and office operations.
Organize, manage, and evaluate emergency procedures.
Continuously foster positive relations with the Parish community.
Ensure compliance with all laws, administrative codes, Diocesan policies and regulations.
A Master’s degree in an educational, management, or organizational discipline.
Minimum of five years of experience as a Teacher-Minister in a Catholic School.
Minimum of one year of Educational Administration experience.
Have (or be in the process of obtaining) an Ohio Principal’s Licensure.
Have successfully completed “Protecting Youth and Those Who Serve Them” Workshop.
Have (or be in the process of obtaining) Catholic School Orientation (CSO) Certification and be working toward an Advanced Certification for “Growing in Faith.”
Must be a practicing Catholic, in full communion with the Church, acting and speaking in a manner that supports the Roman Catholic Church and its teachings.
Must successfully pass the required BCI/FBI background check (prior to employment as well as every five years).
Have a high level of computer knowledge, including expertise in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Relevant Soft Skills:
Highly effective communication (both written and verbal) and organization skills.
Exercise considerable independence, judgment, and discretion.
Simultaneously manage multiple tasks.
Resolve complex problems.
