RESOURCE TEACHER POSITION
Education: Middle/High School, FT Contract
Bishop Ireton High School (Alexandria, VA)
Resource Teacher/Academic Enrichment Director
Bishop Ireton High School
The Academic Enrichment program serves as extra academic support for students enrolled at Bishop Ireton High School. The program is not a special education program. Rather, its focus is to assist students in meeting the demands of a challenging, college-preparatory curriculum. The Academic Enrichment Program’s resource teachers help students improve their overall comprehension of subject content in all areas of study and reinforce the skills taught in the classroom. Resource teachers help students learn organizational skills and time management to make study sessions at home more efficient and productive. They provide strategies tailored to each student for studying, reviewing, and test taking, as well as researching for papers and projects. Individual and small-group instruction is available in academic areas in which students are experiencing difficulty. Class size is restricted to allow for personal and individual attention to each student. At times Academic Enrichment students may be directed to go to the math and/or writing centers for assistance.
The ideal candidate will hold a minimum of a Master’s degree and have at least six years experience teaching at the middle or secondary level in a center for special education and/or diverse learning needs. A qualified candidate will have a proven track record of success in a center of learning as demonstrated by strong references. Extra value will be placed on the candidate who has been instrumental in establishing such a center of learning within a school. A candidate must be VIRTUS certified or be willing to undertake VIRTUS training.
