Position Description: Reporting to the Administrator of St. Stephen’s, the Program Director will provide a Catholic presence to and foster the spiritual, intellectual, apostolic and human needs of the students and faculty of the University of Alabama at Birmingham in regard to the Catholic faith. The position will be part time (25 hours weekly).
Key Areas of Responsibility:
Prepare and attend all summer orientations and campus networking opportunities to publicize and promote St. Stephen’s campus ministry outreach at UAB.
Maintain a data base of prospective catholic students and their families attending UAB.
Plan, schedule and implement semester programs that challenge the UAB students in the four pillars of formation: spiritual, intellectual, apostolic and human with a special emphasis on the outreach to the poor.
Foster and facilitate the integration of students in the life of St. Stephen’s Catholic University Chapel. Assist St. Stephen’s Administrator in forming a community, participating in liturgical ministries, especially, at the 5pm Mass.
Coordinate the announcements for the weekly bulletin with St. Paul’s Cathedral publicizing the dates and times of student activities for the three campuses of UAB, Samford and Birmingham Southern.
Plan, coordinate and attend all student activity at St. Stephen’s including but not limited to: student meals, educational and social programs within the facility of St. Stephen’s. Much of this activity will be in the evening on Sunday, Wednesday and Thursday from 6pm – 10pm.
Submit plans and purchases of resources to implement a growing student evangelization at UAB. These are to be reviewed and approved by the Administrator and purchases above $100 must be approved by the Administrator.
Qualifications: Bachelor degree and a background in Theology or Pastoral Ministry. The candidate should have as participated in parish life, preferably with some background in Campus Ministry and has a thorough knowledge and commitment to implementing the vision of Church as found in the documents of Vatican II. The candidate should possess good communication skills, both verbal and written; is comfortable with international persons and willing to facilitate communication with people of different cultures. The candidate should possess a good knowledge of computers and modern forms of communication of social media and websites. Lastly, the candidate must continue his/her formation in the catholic faith.
