The Board of Trustees of Notre Dame College, a Catholic four-year, coeducational liberal arts college founded by the Sisters of Notre Dame, has launched a national search for the 14th President of the College. Notre Dame College seeks an entrepreneurial, dynamic leader who has a demonstrated record of successful performance in an academic setting or a similarly complex organization. Bringing exceptional administrative experience, strong character, and a passion for teaching and learning to the chief executive position, the President will be committed to propelling the College toward even higher levels of achievement.
The successful candidate will value the College’s mission, culture, community, campus life, and heritage, especially the creative and compelling ways in which the faculty unleashes the potential of students. The President will support the significant role the institution plays in the community at large and its steadfast commitment to scholarship and diversity.
Combining business acuity with analytical strengths will be key. The President will be capable of initiating entrepreneurial and resourceful approaches to financial leadership and management. The President also will seek and develop new channels of support for the College.
A confident and perceptive leader, the President will work collaboratively with others, finding common ground among diverse viewpoints. Together with the abilities to balance and prioritize, the President will possess the discernment and judgment to assess, modify, and initiate programs and goals that enable the College to advance its mission.
The President will embrace the role as Notre Dame’s chief ambassador and excel in representing the College. The executive officer will help preserve and enhance the connectedness of each part of the College community.
An earned terminal degree is preferred. Candidates with evidence of extraordinary intellectual engagement will be considered. Significant experience in leadership roles is required. The President will identify with and make a commitment to the College as a Catholic, mission-driven, small liberal arts institution of higher learning.
The College’s executive officer will be a person with high energy, highly developed people skills, and a can-do spirit. He or she will be of sound character and good judgment, and possess an inquiring mind.
The successful candidate will have:
–the ability to advance the College’s mission with vision and conviction
–a proven leadership style that evokes trust, encourages collaboration and reflects confident decision making
–significant and successful experience in board relations and development
–financial acumen and a deep understanding of small college finances and the challenges confronting independent institutions
–demonstrated expertise in enrollment management and retention programs for both f2f and online, traditional and nontraditional, undergraduate and graduate students
–proven leadership in fund-raising, working collaboratively with the Board of Trustees and Advancement staff to enhance resource development
–a commitment to the principles of shared governance
–a commitment to strengthening the College’s academic programs, liberal arts heritage, and the development of 21st century learning styles and pedagogies in both f2f and online and other distributed learning modalities
–an appreciation for the work of the faculty in teaching, learning, creativity, and scholarship
–a commitment to diversity in all of the College’s dimensions
–a deep understanding and commitment to programs for students with learning differences since the College’s Academic Support Center for Students with Learning Differences has received national prominence and the ability to secure an endowment
–a broad appreciation of the value of a residential college merging academics, student life, and intercollegiate athletics into a character forming experience
–the ability to connect authentically with students and understand their intellectual, spiritual, social, and physical gifts and needs
–a commitment to nurture and enhance the relationship between the College, the Sisters of Notre Dame, and the Catholic Church
ABOUT NOTRE DAME COLLEGE
Founded in 1922, the College is committed to educating a diverse population in the liberal arts for personal, professional, and global responsibility. The College believes that truly progressive education selectively blends traditional values with new ideas that represent real growth.
In the tradition of the Sisters of Notre Dame, Notre Dame has retained its philosophy of being an opportunity college. The College strives to provide its mission-focused, values-based, private Catholic education to students who might otherwise not have access to such an experience. Through institutional financial aid of $19 million annually, 95 percent of Notre Dame students receive financial aid and over half are the first in their families to attend college.
One of the most diverse colleges in Ohio, approximately one-fourth of Notre Dame’s students are of minority populations. Twenty states and a dozen countries are represented in the student body. The College’s 57 full-time faculty members are dedicated to student success; the small class sizes offer personalized attention. Notre Dame offers majors in nearly 30 disciplines with classes available both online and on its campus in South Euclid, Ohio. The College confers associate’s, bachelor’s, and master’s degrees through its five academic divisions – Business Administration, Arts & Humanities, Nursing, Education, and Science & Mathematics – and special and interdisciplinary programs.
The Finn Center for Adult, Graduate, and Professional Programs works specifically with adult and online students. The Center continues the rich tradition of adult education at Notre Dame College, offering certificates, bachelor’s degrees, and master’s degrees to those seeking professional development, career advancement, or career changes.
A signature program at Notre Dame is the Academic Support Center (ASC) for Students with Learning Differences. This advocacy program assists students diagnosed with ADD, ADHD, or dyslexia, a group traditionally underserved in post-secondary education. Through the ASC, students have access to quality educational opportunities and support services necessary to be successful in the collegiate environment.
The College’s 53-acre wooded campus is located in South Euclid, Ohio, 25 minutes from downtown Cleveland. Major improvements have been recently made to the campus. Campus-wide construction and renovations include the Academic Support Center for Students with Learning Differences and a Starbucks-style coffee lounge, 10 classrooms, 12 faculty offices, and new facilities for the Nursing Program and two residence halls. The Christ the King Chapel was completely renewed and the Connelly Center Dining Hall was dramatically renovated.
A NCAA Division II institution, Notre Dame’s 22 intercollegiate sports for men and women include bowling, water polo, and football. The College is a member of the newly formed Mountain East Conference. The recent completion of two multipurpose all-weather athletic fields on campus has transformed student life and energized student engagement.
