Pastoral Minister / Youth Ministry Leader

Time split equally between Youth Ministry & Pastoral Ministry (Ministry to Homebound/Sick, Bereavement, Widow/Widower, other duties as assigned by the pastor)

I. General Pastoral Ministry Responsibilities:
a. Collaborate closely with the pastor and with other members of the pastoral staff to create and provide ministerial opportunities within the overall mission of the parish (To know, love, and serve God more fully).
b. Collaborate in the overall process of parish administration including: assessing needs, pastoral planning, decision-making, implementation, and budgeting.
c. Foster the faith life and growth of the parish community.
d. Act as a coordinator of one or more of the parish ministries/programs as agreed upon with the pastor.
e. Serve in a variety of specific ministries as needed in the life of the parish, determined by availability of the minister and the varying demands of parish life.
f. Participate in the recruitment, training, formation, and supervision of parish volunteers.
g. Provide significant pastoral presence at important parish gatherings; liturgies, social events, prayer and functions.
h. Make yourself available to parishioners especially during important moments of parishioners’ life through pastoral care, counseling and spiritual direction.

II. Youth Ministry Responsibilities
a. Work with Directors of Religious Education, Director of Liturgy and Music, School Religion Teachers and Religious Education Catechists, and Director of Adult Faith Formation to provide holistic catechesis and faith formation for middle school and high school youth.
b. Collaborate with pastor and parish staff to cultivate a culture of youth ministry in many different aspects of parish life.
c. Encourage participation of adults as youth ministry volunteers and provide adequate training and continual formation as catechists, small group leaders, and mentors to teens.
d. Participate as a member of the parish vocations committee.
e. Communicate with other parishes and local high schools to provide ministry to youth.

III. Pastoral Minister to Homebound Responsibilities
a. Collaborate and communicate with pastor and other priests on the Pastoral Team to serve the sacramental and pastoral needs of sick and homebound parishioners.
b. Regularly assess the current needs of the community including the needs of all homebound parishioners, parishioners in local hospitals, and parishioners in local nursing homes.
c. Organize and communicate a schedule of visiting parishioners with the pastor
d. Cultivate interest and provide formation for any parishioners who would like to volunteer their time to visit with and/or administer the Sacrament of Holy Eucharist to homebound parishioners.
e. Position will also include providing support for parishioners who are grieving the loss of a family member or loved one. This includes but is not limited to providing pastoral counseling, sharing helpful resources, connecting parishioners to bereavement counseling services both within the parish and local South Bend community.
f. Coordinate bereavement ministry for Christ the King Parish community.
g. Assess needs of Widows/Widowers in the Christ the King Community, and work with parish volunteers to create a supportive and service oriented community for these individuals.

IV. Professional responsibilities
a. Faithful to the Magisterium and teaching of the Church
b. Need to be co-workers with the pastoral team
c. Need to maintain good time management skills

VII. Education/Training/Formation
a. Master’s level education in Theology, Ministry, or Catechesis is preferred. At least Bachelor’s degree in a related area is required.
b. Completion of formation or certificate program is preferred. If candidate has not participated in a ministerial formation program, they will be strongly encouraged to participate in the diocesan Education for Ministry Course, or a formation program through a local university.
c. Candidates must be excited and willing to continue their intellectual and ministerial formation through courses, conferences, or seminars. The parish will pay for some continuing education each year.
