Position Opening for Pastoral Administrator

Inchelium is in a remote corner of northern Washington State, on the eastern border of the Colville Reservation. The living situation is Spartan. The community is poor and mostly Native American. This is a position for someone who is looking for a challenge, has some experience of working with the poor and underprivileged, is in good health, and likes the outdoors.
The pastoral administrator is a vital pastoral presence in Native American mission communities such as St. Michael’s, without a resident priest. The position requires active leadership in the parish community and collaboration with the pastor. The model of leadership should be that of one who serves and nurtures the community, encouraging leadership from within the community, especially with the Indian members, so that the parish community grows in becoming as self-sustaining as possible. In addition to assisting the priest with setup for Masses and other liturgical celebrations, the position also requires administration including fiscal administration and upkeep of the buildings (church, parish hall, and parish house), and grounds. The ability to do some physical work is important. It is hoped that the pastoral administrator will find opportunities to train motivated Native community members to assist or take on some of these tasks, as appropriate. $26,000+/year plus benefits plus free housing and utilities.
a. Mass setup / keeping an inventory of sacramental supplies and ordering as needed. Plan liturgical celebrations and decorations with the parish liturgy / music groups, seasonal themes, special Masses, etc.
b. Meet regularly with the pastor and pastoral council to help establish and carry out mission and parish objectives.
c. Assist with organizing for CCD / children’s liturgy, retreats, adult ed., RCIA, etc.
d. Newsletter in the Spring and Fall or as needed.
e. Prepare church, church-Hall, and or Inchelium Community Center for funerals and church related functions.
f. Coordinate baptisms and marriages with the parish priest; assist pastor in preparation for these sacraments (according to parish policy and diocesan guidelines).
g. Provide for visitation / Holy Communion being taken to the sick and shut-ins.
h. Work cooperatively with other church groups in the Inchelium Community as situations arise.
i. In consultation with the pastor, provide for the training of lay persons as lectors, eucharistic ministers, and other ministries as needed.
j. Provide for the services on the Sundays without a priest. Such services are ordinarily communion services. The second Sunday of the month is communion service Sunday.
k. Make sure there is a presider.
l. Help the gospel reader / homilist with materials they can use in preparing for services.
m. Attend occasional meetings of the Colville / Spokane Reservation pastoral group as such meetings arise.
a. Prepare a balanced yearly budget for fiscal year based on projected income and expenditures, January 1 — December 31, each year.
b. Prepare financial reports semi-annually and yearly
c. Process parish income from collections, donations, gifts, fundraisers, etc. All checks should be deposited within a week of receipt.
d. Pay monthly bills
e. Grant writing for funds regularly available from the Spokane Diocese and other grant monies as applicable.
Building / Grounds
a. Organize for the cleaning and maintenance of the church and parish hall.
b. Clean and maintain parish house
c. Organize for maintenance of yard and grounds and around church and church-hall.
d. Coordinate and assist parishioners in the gathering of firewood for the winter.
e. Oversee any building construction.
f. See that the church building is sufficiently heated for Sunday Mass/Communion service. (494)
