No Stranger to Death, Navy Chaplain Fr. Ron Camarda Stars in Special Veteran’s Day Program

WATERTOWN, MA (MetroCatholic) – No Stranger to Death, Navy Chaplain Fr. Ron Camarda Stars in Special Veteran’s Day Program on CatholicTV

On Veteran’s Day November 11th, CatholicTV will air a special short film called “Tear in the Desert” starring Navy Chaplain Fr. Ron Moses Camarda. Fr. Ron was recalled to Active Duty to serve with the Marines during the Battle for Fallujah, Iraq (2004). At Bravo Surgical (Marine equivalent to a M.A.S.H. unit) he received over 1500 casualties and 81 deaths. In one instance, which he discusses during the short film, Fr. Ron recalls being at the deathbed of a marine named Edward. Moments before Edward’s death Fr. Ron wanted to tell Edward that he loved him, “but that’s not easy for guys to do, even priests” says Fr. Ron. Finally, a force inside of Fr. Ron compelled Fr. Ron to tell the dying soldier that he loved him.

During the short film Fr. Ron tells numerous similar stories while sitting near barbed wire, by a helicopter, and in a Church. The short-film features footage of Fr. Ron setting up his portable altar which includes a small chalice which must be assembled from 2 pieces. Fr. Ron can also be seen interacting with soldiers, and praying in his tent during the short film. The special was produced by Christian Peschken and was filmed at Ft. McCoy in Wisconsin with the support of the US Army. Christian has the exclusive rights to produce a documentary on the book and is developing the script.
