National Organization for Marriage: ‘New York Governor Paterson Insists on Messing with Marriage’

April 20, 2009

Maggie Gallagher: “The government did not create marriage and has no business redefining it, or imposing a strange new definition of marriage on our children and grandchildren.”

PRINCETON, NJ, April 17 (MetroCatholic) – Today, the National Organization for Marriage (NOM) released the following statement in regards to New York Governor David A. Paterson’s decision to introduce a bill legalizing same-sex marriage:

“Gov. Paterson should not be pushing a divisive culture war on the people of New York as a distraction from his inability to lead on rebuilding New York’s economy and balancing its budget. The majority of New Yorkers and the New York Supreme Court reject same-sex marriage.  When will politicians listen to we the people or to their political base?” stated Brian Brown, executive director of NOM.

“Marriage matters because children deserve a fair shot at a mom and dad.  The government did not create marriage and has no business redefining it, or imposing a strange new definition of marriage on our children and grandchildren,” said Maggie Gallagher, president of NOM.

Yes, because the polls say 53% of New Yorkers DISAGREE with the National Organization for Marriage and SUPPORT extending the rights of civil marriage to gays and lesbians. That number is only going up as people realize that ALL CITIZENS deserve EQUAL protections under the laws of our GREAT NATION!

Got something to say?
