MRS Employment Specialist – Full-time
Catholic Charities Migration and Refugee Services program is seeking a full-time (40 hours/week) Employment Specialist in its Arlington and Alexandria offices. The Employment Specialist works with refugees and asylees to help them procure meaningful employment as a first step towards achieving self-sufficiency in the United States. The Employment Specialist will assist in resume creation, completion of job applications, scheduling, and pre-interview coaching. He or she will also monitor the progress of assigned clients and will provide ongoing support to ensure successful outcomes. Because the populations served are in the greater Arlington and Alexandria areas, the successful applicant will be familiar with Arlington, Alexandria and surrounding northern Virginia communities.
MRS carries out the commitment of the US Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) to serve and advocate for refugees, asylees, forced migrants, immigrants, and other people on the move. MRS provides assistance to these most vulnerable people through resettlement services, employment services, and educational services – all rooted in the Gospel mandate that every person is to be welcomed as if he or she were Christ Himself.
Job requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in social services, liberal arts or business
• At least two years direct experience with immigrant populations; refugee-related experience is a plus
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office 7.0 or greater
• Direct experience working with multi-faith populations
• Cultural knowledge of East Africa, North Africa, East and Central Asia; native Amharic speaker OR fluency in Farsi and/or Dari
• Clean driving record
• Preference will be given to multi-lingual candidates
