Minister in Residence
As a representative of University Ministries in the Residence Halls and in collaboration with the Residence Life staff and other areas of the University, initiate, plan and execute times of liturgy, prayer, reflection and meditation in the Residence Halls. This programming is to include an ecumenical aspect to reflect the constituency of the Residence Hall.
Reporting to the Executive Director of University Ministries this is a twenty-four (24) hour a day, live-in position in a residence hall, during all school sessions, in order to identify and address the needs of the students.
Be available to the students in the residence halls, on a formal and informal basis to advise and counsel individual students on a wide range of matters, referring to various on or off-campus resources as appropriate.
Provide assistance to students in crisis and offer pastoral care when appropriate. Provide an environment to help students explore the intersection of faith, reason and action. Act as role model for the campus community by exhibiting a healthy, integrated, faith-based lifestyle.
Participate in weekly Residence Hall staff meetings for assigned area as well and University Ministries staff meetings and periodical meetings of all Residence Life professional staff.
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s Degree required; with 1 or 2 years related experience in ministry/leadership.
SCHEDULE: This is an exempt 10-month live-in position. Hours will be established in conjunction with the Executive Director of University Ministries and will include evening and nighttime hours.
EXPECTATIONS: Understands the Catholic and Franciscan traditions, ethics and values. Ability to communicate and support the Franciscan experience and Franciscan spirituality. Works to educate students who will “fashion a more humane and just world” by connecting students of all faith traditions to the wide variety of events, programs and service opportunities offered by the University.
Provides leadership, counseling and interpersonal skills to facilitate collaboration and positive student experiences. Understands and contributes in building a sense of community within the residence halls and to provide our students with spiritual and service opportunities to enhance faith, values, social commitment and self-awareness.
