Position Summary:

The Major Gifts Officer is responsible for the identification, cultivation and solicitation of gifts from major donors and major donor prospects, and solicitation of grants for MKLM and developing and coordinating relationships with foundations. Approximately 80% of time will be spent on major gift efforts, with 20% of efforts on grant solicitations. The position reports to the Director of Mission Advancement and works closely with him on the implementation of major gift strategies.

Essential Job Criteria:

Education: Bachelor Degree

5-7 years fundraising experience, with a proven record of soliciting major gifts at the $2,500 and above level including grant writing/solicitation

*Commitment to the mission, goals and objectives of MKLM;
*Solid relationship building skills and an understanding of the needs and interests of major donors in order to strengthen the relationship between donor and MKLM; ability to lead and motivate;
*Excellent communication, organizational and time management skills;
*Oral, written and interpersonal skills;
*Computer proficiency; knowledge of eTapestry fundraising software preferred;
*Ability to work independently and as a team member;
*Ability/freedom to travel;
*Ability to manage multiple projects with a strong attention to detail; *Familiar with professional fundraising standards and foundations

License: Possession of a valid driver’s license

Principal Responsibilities:

1. Identify and prioritize major donors and prospects
2. Develop cultivation and solicitation strategies for major donors and prospects
3. Make introductory calls to potential prospects and initiate meetings
4. Conduct appropriate contacts (phone calls, visits, letters, etc.) in the Moves Management Process
5. Travel approximately 25% within a portfolio of cities for major donor visits and gift solicitation
6. Develop annual plan to increase donor giving, and identify and solicit new donors to meet budgeted goals
7. Work strategically and creatively to broaden and expand the base of major donors
8. Coordinate and execute cultivation events
9. Develop customized proposals and follow-up correspondence to formally request and “close” gifts
10. Ensure proper stewardship and recognition of major gifts
11. Develop and review grant proposals
12. Research grant possibilities
13. Develop relationships with foundations

Compensation: $80 – 85K Commensurate with experience
