Library Technical Assistant
Reports to: Library Director
Department: Mary S. Thelen Library
Salary level: 25k-30k, commensurate with experience, full-time with benefits
Certifications or licenses: None required
Education: B.A. or B.S.
-Software Programs: Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Powerpoint;
-Filing, materials/documents organization;
-Customer service and/or work involving providing services to people (preferably in an academic setting);
-Internet and/or online database searching;
-Regular computer hardware/software usage and troubleshooting;
-Library-related experience (two years or more preferred); and
-Subject experience in psychology, theology, or philosophy (desirable).
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
-Maintains the library collections and facility (shelving, shelf reading, etc.).
-Maintains and compiles daily and monthly statistics on collection use and services.
-Retrieves materials from restricted collections.
-Assists patrons in locating, borrowing, and returning materials; and in using library equipment and resources.
-Uses the Integrated Library System, the Internet, and other electronic resources to locate materials/information
-Prepares and maintains collection lists, records, and files.
-Uses the Library of Congress Classification system to locate and re-shelve materials.
-Answers inquiries of a non-professional nature and refers inquiries requiring professional assistance to a librarian.
-Audio visual setup for classroom use, student use. Training provided.
OTHER DUTIES CURRENTLY ATTACHED TO POSITION
-Lifts up to 60 pounds, on occasion.
-Prepares materials for the collection.
-Pulls or pushes cart weighing more than 100 pounds.
-Opening and closing the library.
-Other occasional and on-going projects as assigned by the librarian.
