Belmont Abbey College invites applications for a full-time Lecturer in Psychology, for the contract period August 1, 2014 to July 31, 2015. An earned Master’s degree or doctorate and demonstrated excellence in undergraduate teaching are required. Experience teaching non-traditional adult students preferred. A graduate degree in psychology is preferred but related disciplines will be considered. Familiarity with instructional technology preferred; competence with using computers to communicate and to prepare documents required.
The position of Lecturer of Psychology requires teaching 4 courses per semester (24 credit hours during the contract period). All or most of the courses will be on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. The Lecturer will report directly to the Chair of the Department of Psychology and will teach those courses mutually agreed upon to support the mission of the department, including Introduction to Psychology. The Lecturer will be responsible for submitting syllabi, recording attendance, and participating in the College’s assessment activities in the same manner as other full-time faculty.
The Lecturer of Psychology will agree to strictly observe and conscientiously implement the goals and purposes of the College as well as the general norms and professional standards for faculty members as published in the College Handbook (which is incorporated herein by reference). The successful candidate will have an understanding of, and an appreciation for, the Catholic understanding of the human person.
