Job Title: Coordinator of Young Adult Ministry and Junior High Youth Ministry
Reports To: Director of Religious Education
General Summary of the Position: This role is divided into two areas of ministry, Young Adult and Junior High Youth Ministry.

The primary goal of the Coordinator of Young Adult Ministry is to develop, integrate, and administer programming for Young Adults ages 18-39.

The primary goal of the Coordinator of Junior High Youth Ministry is to develop and administer a Youth Ministry program for the junior high school youth (grades 6-8) and working closely with the Coordinator of Youth Ministry.

Each portion of the role is expected to take 50% of the full-time employee’s time and attention (may vary from week to week as needed.)

Essential Functions:

Coordinator of Young Adult Ministry
1. Administration & Young Adult Committee (YAC)
a. Invite young adults active in the parish & ministry to join the planning committee
b. Host monthly meetings & direct committee to plan events
c. Participate in Faith Formation Staff Monthly meetings
d. Plan budget for the ministry for the upcoming fiscal year
e. Promote and administer all young adult activities

2. Faith Formation
a. Host weekly meetings and events, tailoring teaching to be in alignment with parish faith formation programs for Advent, Lent, etc.
b. Provide teaching focused on topics each week, rotating throughout the month so as to focus one week each month on catechesis, formation, prayer, and social
c. Work with other Young Adult ministers in the deanery and diocese to prepare and coordinate events for Young Adults
d. Organize Adult Confirmation for baptized Catholics who have not been confirmed in coordination with the diocese
e. Be available to young adult parishioners

3. Youth Ministry Recruitment
a. Participate in the Senior Retreat with the Carmel Deanery
b. Work with Coordinator of Youth Ministry & Youth Ministry Core Team to develop plan for recruiting and maintaining participation in Young Adult Ministry

4. College Ministry
a. Keep in touch with college students in the parish, inviting them to participate in YAM activities when they are home (breaks, summer, etc.)

5. Outreach
a. Work with Coordinator of Outreach & YAC to plan monthly service opportunities for young adults in the parish

6. Additional Duties as assigned by the Director of Religious Education

Essential Functions:

Coordinator of Junior High Youth Ministry

1. Formation for Junior High Youth Ministry
a. Form annual curriculum for weekly ministry from the Edge material, Protecting God’s Children, liturgical calendar, and discerned programs of the Faith Formation staff (i.e. for Advent, Lent, etc.)
b. Recruit and provide training, as well as protocol certification, for junior high youth ministry volunteers
c. Integrate parish adults and high school leaders for core team
d. Involve parents in ministry and provide volunteer opportunities

2. Annual Junior High Events
a. Provide and direct at least one retreat opportunity for 7th and 8th graders
b. Provide annual service experience(s)
c. Participate in the deanery lock-in and King’s Island trip
d. Host Fall Hay Ride

3. Junior High Ministry Tasks
a. Update bulletin, parish monitors, and youth ministry blog for JHYM
b. Visit youth in their environment away from church (school lunch, sports, theater and art, etc)
c. Be available to the youth of SLDM School
d. Work with liturgists to involve junior high students in liturgical ministries

4. Collaboration with Coordinator of Youth Ministry
a. Attend school lunches with coordinator
b. Help with special tasks or projects as needed

5. Uphold expectations for all St. Louis de Montfort Ministry Staff

6. Participate in parish, deanery, diocesan and national programs related to Youth Ministry

7. Work on special projects as directed by the Director of Religious Education

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics:

• Desire to know God, and to share God’s love with youth and young adults
• Practices a deep prayer life rooted in regular participation in the Sacraments of the Catholic Church, with ongoing spiritual formation and conversion
• Ability to be an authentic and relatable witness to the Gospel
• Maturity to minister to peers while maintaining role as the leader
• Demonstrated skills in program organization and administration
• Able to adapt to a flexible schedule (frequent evenings and weekends) while also holding regular office hours at some time during the week

• Bachelor’s degree in Theology/Religious Studies or related field
• Certificate in Youth Ministry (or willingness to pursue)
• Prefer experience working as a Youth Minister or with parish youth programs
• ELM certification or working towards it
• Open to a graduate Theology education (198)
