Homily #130113 ( 11min) Play – This feast isn't so much about the baptism of Jesus, but ours. Jesus didn't seek baptism for Himself, for He had no need for cleansing, but for us, who do need to be cleansed. He came not to be cleansed, but give the waters of the world the power to cleanse. Baptism lifts us from the state of original sin, and gives us true freedom – the freedom to do the Will of God and avoid sin. We must develop our own baptism by living our Catholic Faith with fidelity, perseverance and generosity. We must also work to bring the great gift of baptism to all men so that they may share in the joy and hope it bestows, for baptism does not oblige us to a list of rules, but sets us on the path of true life. Finally, we must always remember that this gift is carried in vessels of clay and can be easily sullied or lost. Therefore, let us entrust our baptism to Our Lady and rely on her to bring it into the full flower of everlasting life. Ave Maria!
