INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC TEACHER
Education: Middle/High School, FT Contract
Oakcrest School (McLean, VA)
Oakcrest School is an independent school for girls in grades 6-12 located in McLean, VA. We are seeking a part-time Instrumental Music Teacher to teach year-long sessions of 6th grade beginning instrumental class; 7th-8th grade winds and strings classes; and Upper School chamber orchestra; as well as collaborate with the Visual and Performing Arts Department on Fine Arts Week. The instrumental program will be in its third year and requires a self-starter who will take initiative in continuing to build the program. An ability to teach in another discipline could result in a full time position. If qualified, other duties may be available including acting as Music Director for two annual musicals and accompanying.
Bachelor’s degree in Music Education or Applied Music.
Experience with strings and winds methods/instrumental music at the Middle School and Upper School levels.
Experience working directly with instrumental ensembles, musical direction and sound technology preferred.
Experience designing curriculum and/or willingness to work with department chair on curricular ideas and initiatives, including varied assessment strategies.
Natural rapport and demonstrated effective leadership with students.
Strong, effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Professional demeanor and ability to maintain confidentiality
Effective classroom management skills
Interest and commitment to ongoing professional development
Established piano proficiency; strong musicianship skills.
