Help Frisco Family Services Fight Hunger and Homelessness
November 11, 2009
Frisco, TX (MetroCatholic) – From Frisco Family Services:
As part of our ongoing commitment to prevent hunger and homelessness in Frisco and surrounding communities, Frisco Family Services has launched this year’s Annual Giving Campaign with a goal of raising $100,000 to fund services and programs for those in need or in crisis. With the downturn of the economy over the past year, families who are already suffering from unemployment, low wages, insufficient benefits, reduced public support, and those on a limited income such as senior citizens are experiencing a huge impact leaving them to truly fight for their survival. Even those who were previously stable are being impacted by increased food and fuel costs, job losses, volatility in the stock market, the housing slump and the instability of financial institutions. Families from all different backgrounds are now coming through the doors of FFSC: a realtor with a family who has not sold a house in 18 months, an elderly couple on a fixed income and both needing life supporting medications, a working single mother with 3 children who had to accept a reduction in wages in order to keep her job, and a family of 5 with a father who was recently laid off after 20 years with the same company. These are all members of the Frisco community, neighbors, friends, co-workers and family members, who for reasons beyond their control have had to turn to FFSC for assistance in their time of hardship.
Providing services for 1387 families (4600 individuals) in that past fiscal year, FFSC has experienced a 30% increase in clients and an unprecedented 52% increase in new families seeking assistance.
“The demand for our services continues to increase and based on recent monthly trends, it is conceivable that we will need to serve 1800 or more families this fiscal year, states Joni Klarin, Development Director. This marked increase in client families has required a reduction in the amount of emergency financial assistance and other services provided each family. “Although we continue to work very hard to identify and secure additional sources of support, further reductions in client assistance may be necessary unless we reach our goal.” All funding and contributions have a direct and significant impact on the lives of each and every person assisted by FFSC and in turn, the community as a whole. The ability to provide these essential programs and services to meet the needs of this growing client base depends now, more than ever, on the caring generosity of this community.
