First National Hispanic Pro-Life Congress Coming to Dallas Sept. 19-21
August 20, 2008
DALLAS, Aug. 20, 2008 (DFW Catholic) – For the first time in history, Bishops, clergy, religious and lay people from all over the United States, of every background, will be gathering for the First National Hispanic Pro-Life Congress ever to be held in the United States.
Sponsored by the Spanish Ministry of the Catholic Pro-Life Committee (Comité Católico Pro-Vida) and Vida Humana Internacional, the purpose of the Congress is to build awareness of the precarious situation with which Hispanic Americans are faced as targets of the culture of death, and learn what we can do to stem the tide. It is urgent that the Catholic Church and other Catholic organizations collaborate with Hispanic Americans in defense of their beautiful traditions and family values, before they lose their faith, their love for life and their families.
Featuring internationally known speakers:
Joseph Meaney, Director of International Coordination for Human Life International; speaking on “The culture of death vs. The Culture of Life.” Joseph will give a general vision of the “culture of death,” which will establish the basis for the programs that will follow during the rest of the Congreso.
Marcela Barcerra, Director of the Coalition for Groups in Favor of Life and Family; speaking on “Anti-Life Attacks in Mexico.” Marcela will discuss how Planned Parenthood’s affliliate in Mexico, the Center for Reproductive Rights, other national and international abortion organizations and the government have collaborated to promote the culture of death in the country of Mexico, and how the pro-life movement has responded to these attacks.
Dr. Martha Garza, NFP-Only OB/GYN from San Antonio, Texas; speaking on “The Promotion & Teaching of Natural Family Planning.” This is an introduction (not a formal instruction) of Natural Family Planning (NFP). Dr. Garza will give a general view of the principle methods used in NFP, its spiritual and practical benefits, the differences between NFP and contraception, as well as the myths associated with NFP. She will provide an availability of groups and resources. Also included will be a brief but solid presentation of the doctrine of the Church regarding NFP vs. contraception.
Aurora Tinajero, Director of Spanish Ministry for the Catholic Pro-Life Committee (Comité Católico Pro-Vida); speaking on “A Call to Pro-Life Action: Practical and Civic Responsibility.” More than a presentation, this is a call to our participants to get involved in the ministries or pro-life work that are already in existence, as well as organizing and establishing new groups that are needed to defend life, especially in local communities. Practical ways in which people can get involved, where to call, etc., including a call to civic responsibility.
Magaly Llaguno, Director of Vida Humana Internacional; speaking on “Post-Abortion Reconciliation and Healing.” Magaly will give her testimony, sharing the love and mercy of God are infinitely greater and more powerful than any sin. The post-abortive ministries of Project Rachel and Rachel’s Vineyard will be discussed, with a call to priests and mental health professionals to get involved in this work.
Conference sessions will run from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Conference will be presented in Spanish, with English translation available via headset. Some mature content; recommended for ages 14 and up.
Opening Mass will be celebrated by Bishop Kevin Farrell, Diocese of Dallas, on Friday, September 19, at 7 p.m. All clergy are invited to concelebrate.
Conference cost is $25 which includes conference sessions and materials. Food and lodging are separate. Cost per room per night: $69.

[...] About Time! First National Hispanic Pro-Life Congress to meet in Dallas, Texas Sept 19-21. [...]
Does anybody know who I can contact about becoming a member of the new “Hispanic Alliance for Life and Family” that was formed at this congreso? I live in Southern California and am pondering about starting some kind of local Latino pro-life network, even if it was just an online movida to start off….
gracias.
