The Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) is the domestic, anti-poverty social justice program of the U.S. Catholic Bishops. This year, CCHD is offering a local paid internship for Catholics with the Diocese of Richmond Office of Social Ministries to help promote the important work of CCHD and to offer experience working with and on behalf of those in poverty. The internship will provide practical work in carrying out the mandate of CCHD, opportunities to develop relationships with community leaders, reflection on Catholic social teaching, and opportunities for sharing the experience with other CCHD interns.
The CCHD intern will be responsible for assisting the CCHD Diocesan Director in facilitating and promoting all CCHD grant and poverty awareness programs, promotional and recognition events, parish participation in CCHD funded projects and the national collection and relationship building throughout the diocese.
Job responsibilities will include: Creating and disseminating localized multi-media promotional materials; Relationship building and outreach to parishes and schools; Promote and encourage parishes to participate in JustFaith programs; Relationship building and outreach to community organizations working on poverty; Relationship building with CCHD grantees; Researching parish participation and activities around CCHD and CST; Researching local poverty statistics and needs; Developing CCHD grant review team training manual and materials; Assisting in training CCHD grant review teams; Developing and promotion of Catholic Social Teaching and CCHD workshops for CCHD grant applicants and recipients; Planning CCHD recognition and promotion/speaker events; Developing materials and programs for Poverty in USA Awareness Month; Developing and facilitating programs for Poverty Awareness and response; Attending trainings and CCHD grant reviews and meetings; Assisting in the oversight and planning for the use of the 25% of the collection that stays in the diocese; Promote Multi-Media Youth Contest throughout the diocese and help to finalize the winners.
Qualifications and skills needed: Familiarity with Catholic Social Teaching; Knowledge of CCHD values, strategies and principles; Good written and oral communication skills; Good time management skills; Knowledge of fund raising and marketing strategies; Computer skills including multi-media programs and graphic design experience; Knowledge of event planning processes; Research and Analysis skills; Ability to travel; Bi-lingual is a plus.
The internship is paid at an hourly rate of $12/hour and requires 16 hours a week from June to December 2014. The job location will be Roanoke, VA.
