DIRECTOR, STRATEGIC PLANNING

At the direction of the Committee on Priorities and Plans (CPP) and under the supervision of the Associate General Secretary, the Director, Strategic Planning assists the bishops, their committees, and offices by providing:

• Staff assistance to the Committee on Priorities and Plans and to the General Secretariat on the execution of the strategic planning function for the Conference ;
• Consultation and advice to bishops, committees and Conference offices on strategic planning and organizational effectiveness issues;
• Coordination and facilitation services to bishops, committees and offices in service to the strategic plan, its development, implementation and assessment;
• Lead staff support to the forty-member National Advisory Council (NAC), facilitating NAC’s function and mission in its advisory role to the Bishops’ Administrative Committee; and
• Oversight of clearinghouse for grants received by USCCB.

Requirements

Education: Graduate degree in Business, Management, Social Sciences or related field

Other Specialized Training:
• Knowledge of Catholic Church structure and teachings.
• Working knowledge in several professional disciplines, including the ability to integrate information from a variety of diverse sources, and the ability to work collaboratively with all elements of the staff on a variety of joint tasks and projects
• Ability to deal with confidential and sensitive communications
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Self-starter, well-organized, good time management skills
• Group facilitation and listening skills

Type and Nature of Professional Experience (minimum 10 years):
• Experience providing strategic planning consulting services to non-profits
• Ability to manage the development of formal, comprehensive strategic plans
• Skill collecting, assimilating and analyzing large volumes of information needed for effective decision-making
• Lean six sigma project identification
• Experience in performance-based management analysis of data
• Ability and experience leading diverse teams through complex projects and analyses
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Experience in administration on an executive level, either diocesan or other management experience
