St. Peter Parish in Huron, Ohio (on the Lake Erie shore) is in search of a full-time Director of Worship (music & liturgy) to invigorate the worship experience of the parishioners of St. Peter. The Director of Worship is responsible for facilitating the worship life of the parish by coordinating and providing a quality liturgical experience, which celebrates and strengthens the membership journey of faith, particularly through the music ministry. Major duties include weekend Masses, Sunday evening youth Masses, funerals, and scheduling of various liturgical ministers. The ideal candidate must be skilled in both keyboard (experience playing the organ is not required, although the church has both a piano and organ) and vocals. Candidate must be able to read, interpret and play both traditional hymns and contemporary praise & worship music, as well as to lead others into full, active and conscious participation in Mass. Candidate will need to direct, recruit, teach and implement various instrumental and choral combinations including both youth and adult choirs. Candidate must be a practicing Roman Catholic with a heart for worship and the ability to work well with both youth and adults. A Bachelor’s Degree in music, ministry or theology is preferred. The Director of Worship serves as a staff member for St. Peter Parish in the areas of liturgy and liturgical music. This person is responsible to the Pastor and collaborates with the Pastor and other staff members to work for the good of the parish through liturgical planning and music.

a. Directs the parish worship program, including the planning of liturgical seasons.
b. Selects music for parish liturgies
c. Provides accompaniment for the regular parish liturgical celebrations-including Sundays, holy days, funerals, youth Masses, sacramental celebrations and weddings-and as needed for special occasions
d. Trains, directs and supervises adult choirs, youth choirs, cantors, Resurrection Choir for funerals, and musicians-including whatever rehearsal time is required
e. Is available for wedding consultation, meeting with the engaged couples and/or soloist(s) if requested
f. Plans other parish liturgies as needed (e.g., penance services)
g. Coordinates those involved in the liturgical ministries of lectors, Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, and the writers of the general intercessions. This includes the scheduling of these ministries, as well as the altar servers
h. Coordinating the ongoing formation of liturgical ministers
i. Recruits persons for various liturgical roles and attempts to involve new members-parishioners of all ages and diverse parish subgroups
j. Provides for periodic evaluation of the quality of the worship celebrations and liturgical ministries
k. Coordinates the liturgical updating and education of the parish, including facilitating the formation and implementation of parish and diocesan policies and guidelines concerning liturgy and music.
l. Provides leadership and assistance to the parish worship committee
m. Oversees the aesthetic decor and cleanliness of the worship space and the operation of an effective sound system
n. Assists the elementary school community, parish school of religion, and junior high & high school youth groups in liturgical celebrations as needed
o. Continuously maintains and develops personal and professional skills through workshops/conferences and personal practice and study
p. Prepares an annual budget in coordination with the parish operations manager, including purchase of music and missalettes, payment of additional musical personnel, copyright fees and programs
q. Selects and programs musical selections for church bell system
r. Maintains musical instruments of the parish
s. Attends parish staff and worship committee meetings and other meetings as requested

a. A high degree of proficiency in the playing of keyboard instruments
b. Ability to play at sight
c. Should have working knowledge of other instruments which might be used
d. Understanding of basic music theory
e. Skill as an effective choral conductor
f. Ability to direct congregational singing
g. Ability to play and sing with accurate pitch and rhythm
h. Knowledge and appreciation of the Church’s liturgical tradition as well as current liturgical practice
i. Ability and desire to lead and sustain a program of quality congregational singing
j. Good knowledge of quality repertoire available for liturgical music programs for adult and youth choirs/ensembles and congregation
k. Enthusiastic willingness to work and minister with people
l. Knowledge of Roman Catholic liturgy, including documents, music resources, and familiarity with the Lectionary and Roman Missal (0)
