Belmont Abbey College is seeking a Chair of the Sport Management Department and Director of the Motorsports Management Program, to begin August 1, 2014. This position, which works closely with the Chair of the Business Department and reports to the Division Chair for Professional Studies and to the Vice President of Academic Affairs, requires a doctorate in Sport Management, at least three years’ experience in the field, and a proven record of outstanding teaching. Ideally, the applicant will also have had experience serving in an administrative capacity. In addition to teaching three courses per semester, he or she will run the two departments, supervise part- and full-time faculty, and advise majors and minors. The successful applicant will also recruit adjunct professors and work regularly with the Motorsports Advisory Board to identify internships for our Motorsport students and funding opportunities for the program. The ideal candidate will be collegial, hard working, well organized, and able to multi-task. He or she must also have the ability to articulate the importance of a liberal arts education and be enthusiastic about teaching and learning in the context of the Catholic Intellectual Tradition. He or she will also be able to manage a small budget effectively and have a good sense of humor. Active support of the College’s mission and the ability and desire to mentor students and junior faculty effectively are required.
