To support the Diocese of Phoenix in its mission of evangelization, this position is responsible for the planning, coordination, implementation and evaluation of evangelization and catechesis that stresses life-long learning and conversion beginning in the family.
Essential Job Functions: Coordinates and collaborates pastoral care, preschool and elementary catechesis and evangelization of adults, youth and young adults and persons with disabilities; oversees all training formation and in-service support to parish evangelization and catechetical personnel and volunteers; prepares and monitors the office budget; hires, supervises, evaluates and dismisses staff in consultation with Executive Director; assists parishes and pastors in developing a plan for family evangelization and catechesis; participates in organizations relative to evangelization and catechetical fields; liaison to scout troops as required by National Federation Council of Youth Ministers; assists the Association of Pastoral Ministers of Care; plans and coordinates an annual Catechist congress collaborating with the other Directors in the Family Catechesis office and Kino Institute; works with the Director of Parish Leadership Support and Kino Institute in the planning and implementation of the Kino Leadership Conference, catechist formation policy and classes.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: Experience in administration and management; ability to keep abreast of Adult Education/Multi-Cultural/Catechetical trends and continue professional development through study, self-examination, and the acceptance of supervision; basic theoretical skills in the evangelization and catechetical field, familiar with both Diocesan policies and the varied cultures and religiosity of the local area; has a knowledge of current theology and catechesis; working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Word and Outlook; ability to work under pressure and with frequent interruptions; must be flexible and willing to work evenings and weekends, as required; must have a valid driver’s license and the ability to travel as required.
Minimum Qualifications: Masters Degree in Religious Education, Theology, Religious Studies or a related field from an accredited school of Catholic Theology; Seven years experience in parish/diocesan family evangelization and catechetical ministry, with supervisory and administrative experience; active practicing Roman Catholic in full communion with the Church; bilingual (Spanish and English) preferred.
