Director of Child and Youth Protection
The Archdiocese of Washington is seeking to fill the position of the Director of Child and Youth Protection. The Director of Child and Youth Protection has overall responsibility for overseeing and implementing the Archdiocese of Washington’s Child Protection Policy. The Director is responsible for providing a safe environment for all children, youth and vulnerable adults in the Archdiocese of Washington through the appropriate background screening and training of clergy, employees and volunteers. The Director is also responsible for on-going education and child protection programs for children, youth and adults in the Archdiocese, and for ensuring compliance with all civil reporting requirements. Finally, the Director is responsible for receiving allegations of abuse and serves as the liaison to victims to ensure they receive appropriate assistance and pastoral care.
The Director of Child and Youth Protection must have an understanding of the Catholic Church and her teachings, and respect the Catholic vision on important social, moral and ethical issues. Counseling experience is required. Knowledge and experience in child and youth protection or child abuse prevention is preferred. A Bachelor’s Degree is required, and a Master’s Degree in Social Work, or related field, is preferred.
