The Church of Saint Catherine of Siena is seeking a Director of Catechesis and Youth Ministry who will be responsible for coordinating the parish’s growing Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) and IGNITE Youth Ministry programs. The ideal candidate will have great zeal for the Gospel, exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, and experience as the lead-catechist of a CGS Atrium.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd
- Catechize students in the Level I and Level II Atria (ages three to nine)
- Prepare all materials associated with leading a robust CGS program
- Recruit volunteer catechists as needed to allow for the continued growth of the program
- Prepare students for the reception of the sacraments of Reconciliation and Holy Communion
- Communicate with parents about the necessity of ongoing faith formation

IGNITE Youth Ministry
- Prepare middle school students for the reception of the sacrament of Confirmation
- Expand the IGNITE program to meet the needs of high school students
- Develop service and social programming for both middle school and high school students to encourage continued growth in the life of faith

General Administration
- Keep comprehensive records of students and families using the Parish database, PDS Church Office
- Establish regular communication with parents
- Update relevant sections of the Parish website
- Ensure safe environment compliance with the Archdiocese of New York
- File Archdiocesan paperwork as needed
- Assist the Pastor and Parochial Vicar in the development and administration of the Parish’s adult faith formation program

REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor’s Degree in Theology, Religious Studies, Education, or equivalent
Certification in CGS Level I (Level I and II preferred)
Willingness to receive training in CGS Level III
Superior interpersonal and relationship-building skills
Strong oral and written communications skills
Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
Proficiency in the Mac OS X environment, especially Apple Mail, Contacts, and Calendar
Proficiency in the use of common office equipment, including copiers and scanners
Ability to learn and utilize the Parish database, PDS Church Office
Ability to prioritize multiple demands on time and attention in a fast-paced work environment
Ability to handle sensitive situations appropriately, with discretion and confidentiality
High level of energy and enthusiasm
Willingness to be an active listener and a team player
Knowledge of Roman Catholic doctrine, liturgy, and customs
Commitment to the mission of the New Evangelization

WORK SCHEDULE

Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m.-5:30 p.m.
Classes with students are scheduled to meet Monday-Friday, 3:30 p.m.-5:00 p.m.
Occasional weekends and weeknights
