Position Description
Director of Campus Ministry and Parish Life
(Full time; 12-months)

General Description:
Newman Center Christ Church is a Catholic parish made up of students, faculty and staff from St. Cloud State University and St. Cloud Technical Community College, as well as individuals and families from the surrounding community who are integral in the ministry to university students. The Director of Campus Ministry and Parish Life helps facilitate connections with the campus faith community by providing pastoral care to students, faculty and staff. This position also animates the permanent community in mission to the campus as an example of dynamic Catholic parish life and in assisting students in their personal appropriation of faith. This position helps, as well, to fulfill pastoral needs of the parish and community at large. The ideal candidate will have the ability to work collaboratively in servant leadership, ministering within the campus communities assigned to the parish, the Newman Center parish community and a three-parish cluster that shares two priests.

Job Responsibilities:

Campus Ministry
• Assist the entire Newman Center staff in faithful service to SCSU and SCTCC students, faculty and staff
• Provide leadership in faith development programs for campus faith community and adult parishioners; leadership in Bible studies, faith sharing groups, and retreats for students, as well as adult faith formation opportunities such as speakers, faith and film nights, book groups, etc.
• Is responsible for all campus ministry activities, including but not limited to small group bible studies/faith sharing groups, retreats, student meals, coffeehouses, gift bags, etc; works with other staff members and parishioners in putting together programming for university students
• Visibly present on the university campuses in order to develop relationships with university students, faculty and staff
• Coordinate the RCIA process; works with those desiring college Confirmation into the RCIA process in a way that makes sense for the individual
• Coordinate Peer Ministry program, including the hiring, supervising, and formation of 4-6 student leaders who take our mission on to the campus in a unique way and who are trained for leadership in evangelization and service to their peers
• Coordinate several service learning trips for university students, including advertising, budgeting, planning, etc; willingness to lead at least one trip per year
• Coordinate monthly service learning activities for university students
• Is present at major parish events for university and parish communities and is attuned to the living faith and real concerns of those individuals
• Participate and share in facilitation of staff and liturgy planning meetings
• Attend monthly focus meetings and is staff liaison to Community Focus Group and Parish Council
• Seek out local and national ongoing formation and learning opportunities; also participates in various diocesan functions, deanery meetings, and MCCMA (Minnesota Catholic Campus Ministry Association) gatherings

Liturgical/Pastoral Care
• Assist with parish liturgical functions on a regular basis, including regular attendance at the Sunday 8 PM Mass
• Participate and share in facilitation of staff and liturgy planning meetings
• Offers liturgical reflections within the Sunday Eucharistic Liturgy on a regular basis
• Preside at liturgical gatherings that do not require the presence of an ordained presbyter (e.g. wake and burial services, word and communion services, stations of the cross, etc.)
• Meet with families on the day of baptism about what to expect in liturgy
• Work with Assistant Director to put on quarterly new members nights to welcome new members to the parish
• As needed, assist parish priests in visiting those from the parish who are ill

Qualifications:
Education:
• Master’s Degree in Pastoral Ministry, Theology or M.Div, or equivalent in pastoral experience is required

Experience:
• 3-5 years ministry experience desired, preferably in college campus ministry

Other Special Requirements:
• Ability to minister to and with university students and other parish members of diverse ages, cultures, and backgrounds
• Support the teachings of the Catholic Church, the unique history and tradition of Christ Church Newman Center, and the philosophy of Blessed John Henry Cardinal Newman
• Profound respect for the Church as the Body of Christ, animated by a diversity of charisms, sensitive to animating the gifts of the Spirit given to all within the church, especially supportive of the gifts of leadership given to the lay faithful, and reflected in language and behaviors that are inclusive, hospitable and spacious
• Background in and appreciation of various theological perspectives, adult education, spirituality and formation
• Some training and experience in pastoral counseling and/or spiritual direction
• Ability to work within pastoral team and parish council frameworks (92)
