DIOCESAN COORDINATOR FOR PEACE AND JUSTICE

The Diocesan Coordinator for Peace and Justice is charged with fostering ongoing social justice awareness and with the assistance of an appointed Parish Social Ministry Leadership Team, proposes and promotes both long-term and short-term parish and diocesan-wide programs and initiatives. Specific Duties to include:
1) Promotes education on Catholic Social Teaching at the parish, deanery and diocesan levels (e.g. public speaking, days of reflection);
2) Initiates and coordinates diocesan involvement in activities related to social justice concerns (e.g. Operation Rice Bowl, Catholic Campaign for Human Development second collection and grant program, Catholic Relief Services second collection);
3) Develops a network of parish contact persons and where feasible, parish Social Concerns Committees, throughout the diocese;
Works closely with the Secretariat for Pastoral Life and the diocesan Respect Life Office;
4) Represents the Diocese on the Social Concerns Committee of the Catholic Conference of Kentucky, actively promoting and participating in their events;
5) Maintains ties with local, state and regional peace and justice organizations, including the Catholic Committee on Appalachia and BUILD of Lexington;
6) Organizes diocesan advocacy efforts on issues of social justice. (76)
