The Development Director will report to the Director of Development for the Independence Mission Schools and work closely and in conjunction with the principal of Saint Malachy School as well as the Saint Malachy School Board and the Friends of Saint Malachy. This position will plan, coordinate, and direct activities that attract the philanthropic support needed to provide sufficient resources for the School to achieve its vision, particularly as it transitions into a new facility. The major objectives of the position are to raise annual development funds. Working with the Board, the Development Director will plan and implement fundraising campaigns that demonstrate vision and initiative by identifying, cultivating, and soliciting individual donors, major benefactors, corporate sponsors, and foundation representatives to support the operational needs of the school.
•Work closely with the Board of Directors and Friends of Saint Malachy to prepare the Development component of the School’s strategic initiatives, including the development of a five-year revenue growth plan to accommodate the operating needs of the newly renovated school facility.
•Work closely with the School Principal and School Board Development Committee to create, implement and monitor development goals and annual fund raising effectiveness.
•Relate strategic initiatives to the Independence Missions Schools’ Director of Development for strategic coordination with the larger network.
•Coordinate all necessary interaction with grantor prospects, donors, and volunteers.
•Research foundations and corporations for the preparation and submission of grant proposals to support the School needs and new opportunities for service.
•Responsible for all phases of individual, family, foundation and corporate giving.
•Ensure maintenance of donor records and good stewardship recognition of contributors.
•Lead and oversee the School’s annual fundraising efforts by writing grants and monitoring annual gift giving numbers.
•Ongoing recording and acknowledgement of donations.
•Maintain financial transparency by providing donors access to School’s fundraising reports.
•Develop and distribute donor recognition newsletters, and coordinate special events, including donor recognition events.
•Provide input to formulation and implementation of a marketing and community relations plan, designed to promote the School locally as a high-quality independent Catholic elementary school within the Independence Mission School model.
•Support and promote School activities to prospective donors, benefactors, corporate sponsors, and foundation representatives, via Facebook, Twitter, and/or School website postings.
•Perform other duties as assigned.
•Commitment to embrace and promote the Vision, Mission and objectives of Saint Malachy School.
•Must be a self-starter with ability to set priorities.
•Five or more years of experience in educational fundraising or a related field.
•Success in all areas of institutional advancement, including, but not limited to: annual giving, major gifts, planned giving, alumni relations, public relations and donor communications.
•Demonstrated leadership and effectiveness in developing and accomplishing organizational and financial goals.
•Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
•The individual should be able to multi-task and to work with various volunteer entities for the success of the school.
•Demonstrated ability to work well with both internal and external constituencies and to meet with constituents and friends of Saint Malachy School, effectively representing the School.
•Experience in maintaining a prospect management system, Donor Perfect experience preferred.
•Superior communication skills to express orally and in writing Saint Malachy school’s mission and fundraising goals with clarity, passion and persuasion.
•Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
•Must be willing and able to travel locally.
