DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATE
Reports to: Director of Development &Stewardship;
FSLA Status: Non-exempt
The Archdiocese of Mobile is seeking an energetic self-starter for the Development Associate position. This is a perfect opportunity for someone who desires a long and successful career in development and fundraising with a focus on Catholic Charities, Catholic Foundation and Parish Stewardship. The development associate works as part of the development team for the Archdiocese of Mobile, acting as the administrative assistant to the development director. The development associate must be a practicing Catholic in good standing, passionate about our faith, and faithful to all teachings of the Catholic Church. The development associate is responsible for many tasks, including but not limited to:
• Receiving, recording and responding to donations
• Maintaining database and data entry
• Composing correspondence
• Researching prospective donors and preparing reports on donors
• Generating check requests for invoices
• Assisting with writing newsletters and annual reports
• Assisting with fund-raising events and mailings
• Writing and uploading website content

FUNCTION
The development associate’s daily responsibility is to sort and distribute mail, compose and mail letters to donors, assist donors on the phone. Maintaining the organization of all donor records that are not electronically kept, such as pledge envelopes, is the responsibility of the development associate. The development associate will also be required to maintain donor information and enter gift information into the donor database; all information recorded within the database is expected to be accurate and up-to-date. The associate must prepare and send acknowledgment letters with an appropriate signature or handwritten notes to donors and volunteers.
ROLE
The development associate acts as the administrative assistant for the entire development department. Development associate should be prepared to give accurate, up-to-date information on any donor. The development associate needs a good phone presence and the ability to screen calls for the development director in addition to delivering customer service to donors. The development associate will attend meetings or assist with fund-raising activities, including mass mailings throughout their employment. Proposal, newsletter, annual report or additional letter writing may be the responsibility of the associate, depending upon the department needs. The associate must be able to multitask with a positive attitude.
EDUCATION
A development associate needs excellent writing, editing and problem-solving skills, in addition to knowledge of specialized software and keen attention to detail. A development associate needs a four-year college degree in any of the following fields: English, philosophy, marketing or communications. Any specialized training in donor management software, particularly Raisers Edge, is highly desirable.

SKILLS/REQUIREMENTS
The necessary skill set for the development associate includes:
• Organizational skills and the ability to meet deadlines
• Accuracy and attention to detail in data entry
• Ability to function either independently or as an active team member
• Outstanding communication skills, both oral and written
• Proficient in Microsoft Office
• Donor management software experience (Raisers Edge)
• Previous administrative assistant or customer service experience
• Manage sensitive and confidential information with integrity
• Ability to lift boxes and bins weighing up to 50 lbs. (115)
