Dean of Students
Marin Catholic High School is a coeducational, college-preparatory Archdiocesan high school located in Kentfield, California. It has an enrollment of approximately 720 students and a staff of almost 100 teachers, administrators and classified personnel.
The Dean of Students is responsible for working with the Assistant Principal for Student Life in managing matters of student conduct and discipline and for working with colleagues to facilitate the formation of MCHS students in alignment with our Philosophy and Mission.
The Dean of Students reports to the Assistant Principal for Student Life.
Primary Responsibilities:
1. Discipline Program
a. Works with the Assistant Principal for Student Life in developing, reviewing, and enforcing the Student Code of Conduct as well as the discipline policies and procedures published in the Parent/Student Handbook.
b. Engages with students who earn persistent behavioral detentions for the purpose of their remediation and improvement
c. Works with faculty and staff to administer discipline policies and procedures.
d. Assists in managing the school’s detention program and discipline records
e. Assists in managing the school’s attendance records
f. In collaboration with the Assistant Principal for Student Life, chairs the Discipline Review Board.
g. Assists in organizing and assigning Campus and Activities Supervision required of faculty.
h. Assists in managing, monitoring, and fulfilling daily campus supervision responsibilities
i. Serves at supervisor at athletic and other school events as assigned by the Assistant Principal for Student Life.
2. Administration
a. Serves on the Discipline Review Board.
3. Programming
a. Works with the Dean of Students in coordination of the Student Affairs Committee and elements of the Health and Wellness Program
4. Emergency Preparedness
a. Assists the Assistant Principal for Student Life in review, implementation and execution of the Emergency Preparedness Plan
Qualifications: The ideal candidate will be a practicing Catholic with three or more years teaching and/or administrative experience in a Catholic secondary school. He/she will have excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to work well with a variety of individuals and groups including staff, students, and parents.
This is a 2/5 position (to be combined with teaching and/or other admin duties). Work year is 190 days; the start date is August 1, 2013.
Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
