Job Description

The Dean of Faculty reports to and works directly with the Director of Instruction (chief academic officer) in the execution of the following duties:

Faculty Orientation
• Conducts a workshop for new faculty in August; organizes materials and schedules
meetings to orient all faculty returning in August
• Coordinates the faculty mentoring program
• Ensures that all faculty understand and can articulate the mission of Bishop Ireton High School
• Schedules guest speakers for faculty in-service programs

Professional Development
• Assumes responsibility for all faculty professional development, including assigning the
calendar of T-day meetings
• Acts as chief liaison to the Diocese of Arlington’s Office of Catholic Schools (OCS) for
faculty and any professional development needs or inquiries

Faculty Evaluations
• Assists Director of Instruction and other assigned administrators in summative
performance evaluations for all instructional staff

Faculty Recertification
• Ensures that all faculty have VCEA or Virginia licensure
• Ensures that all faculty have current catechist certification
• Meets with faculty to make certain they have proper certification and understand the
process and responsibilities of obtaining certification
• Maintains accurate records of all faculty certification

• Supervises and coordinates the accreditation/reaccreditation process
• Meets with members of the School Improvement Committee (SIC)
• Ensures that self-study report is completed accurately and is submitted to OCS by the
deadline date
• Ensures that the electronic AdvancED reaccreditation report is completed by deadline
• Acts as chair or co-chair in the periodic (every five years) re-accreditation process
Freshman Study Skills Program
• Plans study skills session held during freshman orientation
• Distributes study skills survey in the spring and analyzes its data

Other Responsibilities
• Chairs the Academic Council and collaborates with department heads
• participates in conflict resolution for teacher-parent meetings and informs the Director
of Instruction as/when needed
• In collaboration with respective department chairs, assumes leadership for the
advertising, interviewing, and assessing of all prospective teacher hires
• Interviews, screens, and supervises substitute teachers
• Assists the scheduling committee with all faculty scheduling and their proctoring duties
• In concert with the IT Department, works to establish the school master schedule and
individual teacher assignments and classroom assignments
• Assigns faculty service duties (proctoring lunches, study halls, etc.)
• Collaborates with the Director of Counseling and the Office Manager to schedule all
formal parent-teacher conferences
• Assists the Director of Student Life with the annual academic and service banquets in
the reading of names of recipients of academic awards

On-going and/or Variable
• Oversees any archiving of curriculum mapping (dormant business at this time)
• Makes suggestions to the Director of Instruction, the Director of Student Life, and the
Activities Director regarding the school calendar
• Other duties as assigned

• Master’s Degree in Education or Education Administration preferred
• Minimum of two or more years experience with supervision as a current or former
department head or higher administrative position
• Experience with re-accreditation and self-study through AdvancED or similar crediting
organization preferred
• Minimum of five years experience as a teacher
• Ability to lead and inspire a very dedicated, professional, and committed faculty toward
instructional excellence and a rigorous educational program
• An understanding of the mission of Bishop Ireton High School and the value of
Catholic secondary education
• Experience with Salesian model of education preferred but not required
• Ability to multi-task projects and duties in a collaborative working environment
