Job Title: Custodian/Maintenance Worker
Status: Full Time/ Non Exempt
Reports to: Facilities Manager

Primary Function of this Position:
The Custodian/Maintenance Worker provides janitorial services in the church building and parish center building, and provides the set-up and cleaning services for day, evening or weekend activities in all parish facilities.

The Custodian/Maintenance Worker assures the church and parish center buildings are maintained in a clean and orderly manner. He/She accomplishes this by mopping and vacuuming the floors and washing windows and dusting window sills. Also maintains wood furniture that requires oiling and maintenance. Also polish brass and dusting of statues. Removes all trash and food particles from kitchens, clean and degrease kitchens including cleaning kitchen drains. Clean, deodorize and sanitize restrooms and empty all trash bins, cleans classrooms, hallways, drinking fountains, offices, gym, entrances etc., on a daily basis. Maintains an inventory of cleaning supplies and orders as requested. Inspects and cleans walls for graffiti and markings. Other functions include being responsible for checking outside the buildings for damage, litter and/or conditions of general deterioration. Performs scheduled monthly, semiannual, or annual janitorial duties, i.e. floor waxing, painting, window washing, carpet cleaning , etc. as directed by the Facility Manager in accordance with parish maintenance schedules. Performs minor maintenance of the Rectory, Church and School buildings, accomplishes this by doing light carpentry work, plumbing, and other repair work on the facilities as needed. Provides general assistance as needed setting up chairs and tables in the facility as requested, hauling and moving items requested by staff. The Custodian/Maintenance Worker provides set-up and cleaning of facilities for evening or weekend activities as directed by the Facility Manager on an “as needed” basis and all duties as assigned.

Necessary Qualifications:
Work experience in implementing a comprehensive cleaning plan for all facilities including sweeping, dusting, washing, waxing, and all items described in job description.
Must have knowledge of janitorial supplies and their applications including “green supplies”.
Successful work experience in minor repair work including plumbing, carpentry and painting.
Ability to lift 75 lbs.
Must be self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.
Able to honor and maintain confidentiality.
Able to provide own transportation for job-related responsibilities.
Must be available to work weekends and special events on an “as needed” basis.
