COORDINATOR OF RELIGIOUS EDUCATION AND YOUTH APOSTOLATE

St. Joseph Parish (Manhattan, IL)
Primary responsibility is coordinating and organizing the parish religious education program at the elementary and junior high level for children attending public school. Secondary responsibility is leading a youth apostolate inviting young people of the parish to engage in their faith.
A.Primary: Religious Education Coordinator
1.Organize, schedule and oversee religious education program for 1st Grade through 8th Grade.
2.Prepare yearly calendar scheduling sacramental programs and worship services for students.
3.Order textbooks, teaching materials and resources for the program.
4.Prepare an annual budget and monthly financial updates.
5.Recruit volunteer catechists, office assistants, and hall monitors for the program and provide appropriate in-service training and formation for them.
6.Plan sacrament rites with pastor and principal of school.
7.Partner with local community to promote service opportunities for Confirmation candidates.
8.Identify and support the training for catechists at each grade level.
9.Counsel, advise and visit with students, parents and teachers concerning behavior issues.
10.Oversee Vacation Bible School during the summer.
11.Meet regularly with parish staff for planning and coordination of parish programs.
B.Secondary: Youth Apostolate
1.Engage in the formation of young people in high school along with volunteer adult leaders.
2.Facilitate the building up of community among young people connected to the parish community.
3.Promote active youth worship including inclusive and participative liturgy and prayer.
4.Create and oversee an annual youth retreat.
5.Promote quarterly youth events at the parish: social, spiritual, service-orientated, fun events.
6.Partner with local community to promote effective service opportunities for youth.
A.Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
1.Demonstrate ability to carry out administrative and supervisory duties in a timely fashion, utilizing good communication and relationship skills.
2.Possess excellent time-management and organizational skills.
3.Participate in ongoing formation and educational opportunities to keep current with trends in catechetical/youth ministry.
4.Live in conformance with Church teachings being an ambassador of Christ to the parish.
5.Letter of Recommendation from parish priest.
B.Education, Training, and Experience
1.BA in Theology/Religious Education is a plus, or a related educational field and/or a certificate in ministry or theology from a Catholic institution of higher learning.
2.Proven participation and continuing updating of the Virtus Safe Environment Program sponsored through the diocese.
Position entails four days/evenings a week for RE program; occasional weekend work for youth apostolate. (0)
