Human Life International (HLI) [] is seeking a full-time Summer Communications Intern to assist with its mission to protect the sanctity of life and the family around the world. The Communications Intern will have the opportunity to use his/her skill set to help promote and advance the pro-life and pro-family mission of HLI around the globe. While at HLI, the Communications Intern will assist with the writing, editing, publishing and promoting of internal and external communications developed within the Communications Department. Communications Interns should possess a background or interest in writing and communications strategy. Experience in multimedia, WordPress. web design, and graphic design are all pluses but not required.

Interns will also have the chance to learn more about the pro-life teachings of the Catholic Church, and should feel comfortable in sharing HLI’s mission with a variety of audiences. All applicants must be college students, and Political Science, English/Literature, Theology, Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, Advertising and Graphic Design majors are encouraged to apply. Film majors and those experienced in video editing, especially using Sony Vegas, are also encouraged to apply.

Interns will have a chance to earn college credit and will be provided a stipend but must provide their own transportation and housing. The internship will begin in May 2013 and end in August 2013.

Some of the responsibilities for the Communications Intern include:

•Authoring original content for HLI’s blog
•Writing and editing internal and external communications projects
•Helping HLI maintain a strong social networking presence by utilizing social networking applications like Facebook and Twitter
•Updating content on HLI’s websites
•Drafting and sending weekly e-blasts
•Filming interviews, editing videos, updating multimedia on our websites
•Researching prospective media outlets and tracking points of contact
•Researching advertising rates and project costs
•Establishing connections and scheduling meetings with local media
•Assisting HLI with special projects as needed, including donor events and conferences
•Updating and maintaining news release archives
•Creating Press Release and Letter to the Editor templates
•Designing and laying out publications and web projects
•Some administrative duties as needed
