Franciscan Mission Service (Washington, DC)
Franciscan Mission Service seeks a full-time communications volunteer to serve for 13 months in our national office in Washington, D.C., starting in June 2013.
As part of “supported volunteerism,” you will be compensated with a monthly stipend, health insurance, and housing in an intentional young adult community filled with other Catholics serving in the area.
This is a great opportunity for a talented writer looking to expand their portfolio, learn more about international non-profits, and relocate to Washington, D.C.
-Assist with the ongoing development and implementation of the FMS communications and development plans
-Contribute to regular publications, including but not limited to newsletters, e-publications, brochures, display materials, etc
-Regular contribution to electronic media, including the website, blog, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube videos, Linkedn, Pinterest, other
-Assist with development of technology communications, including podcasts, videos, slide shows, and other related materials.
-Regular office duties
-Support our event planning/execution
-Participation in staff meetings and events
-Other duties as assigned
-Bachelor’s degree in communications, English, marketing, business, non-profit management, or other related field
-Excellent writing skills and demonstrated writing abilities; ability to write in multiple genres
-Highly detail-oriented and organized
-Excellent computer skills including a proficiency in Microsoft Office.
-Knowledge of and interest in social media
-Between the ages of 21 and 35.
-Ability to interact effectively with diverse constituencies.
-Demonstrated commitment to service and social justice
-Demonstrated commitment to one’s own faith/spiritual development and openness to learning about the Franciscan charism
-A desire to engage in the FMS community beyond the workday, particularly as it relates to living in the FMS intentional community/house of hospitality (includes weekly meals and prayer)
-Preferred: experience using Final Cut Pro, Photoshop, InDesign; basic skills in photography and videography; familiarity with AP Style.
-A private room in shared housing in our lay missioner house and headquarters is provided, as well as a monthly food/living stipend.
-Basic health care (and annual deductible covered)
-The volunteer will learn about the workings of a small, mission driven non-profit while gaining valuable skills in communications and development.
-Participate in the parts of the formation workshops with our international lay missioners and other domestic volunteers, particularly as they relate to Franciscan spirituality, social analysis, and cross-cultural communication.
-FMS has a small staff that works together closely. Strong mentorship will be provided. The volunteer will be an integral staff member.
