I think it very sad indeed that the report from the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) “Protecting and Promoting Religious Freedom in Syria” is afforded any credibility with regard to what is happening to the Christian minority in Syria today. The following is a truly disingenuous piece of propaganda on behalf of the U.S. administration: “It is clear, USCIRF’s report stated, that “that sectarianism is increasing and religiously-motivated attacks are being perpetrated by the al-Assad regime and its proxies, as well as at times by opposition forces seeking his overthrow, resulting in severe violations of religious freedom.” This passage from the report seeks to lay the principle blame for sectarian attacks at the hands of the Regime and to minimize the sectarian attacks of the armed rebels. A simple phone call to any Church official in Syria would clarify this situation and they and their congregations will tell you that the reverse is true. The Syrian state may never have been perfect but it allowed a degree of religious freedom to it’s citizens that was unrivaled in most Middle Eastern states.
The U.S its NATO allies and the oil rich Regimes of the Gulf are working hand in glove to destroy Syria. The campaign for “freedom and democracy” in that country has long since been hijacked and today it serves as a vehicle for the imposition of a Wahabbi / Salafi type rule at the hands of Jihadists. PLEASE pick up the phone and speak to the Christians in Syria if you want an opinion on their plight and stop relying on a report from a country that is actively assisting one side in the bitter conflict that is ripping Syria apart.

"A tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing."

We have heard all these pseudo-religious platitudes countless times before. Father Martin Rhonheimer says heterosexual couples who marry "intentionally have engaged in a union ordered towards the task of the transmission of human life, accepting all the burdens and responsibilities of this task."

Oh, please. (1) Couples do not need to marry to bear children, (2) the ability or even desire to bear children is not a prerequisite for obtaining a marriage license, and (3) Gay individuals and couples will continue to raise countless children to healthy, well-adjusted adulthood.

But Rhonheimer claims he wants to be diplomatic, saying he "does not exclude private law solutions ... protecting same-sex couples’ civil rights and facilitating, for example, mutual care in case of illness and old age, or adaptations in the field of inheritance law."

All of us in the LGBT community are well aware, through past experience, how vitriolically social conservative react to ANY mention of civil rights law for Gay individuals, let alone couples. And why is it that we would be expected to shell out literally THOUSANDS of dollars for "private law solutions" and legal help, when heterosexual couples get their legal benefits and protections bestowed on them by the government for FREE? How is is remotely constitutional under the 14th Amendment?

BTW: I was in the occult for 30 years. Like taking a voo doo doll and sticking pins in it, taking and writing a name, and placing it on the floor and stomping on it does two things.

1) It creates a mindset that the name on the paper is worthless, of no meaning.

2) It is a occult ritual to stomp / control over and to destroy the name ones name is sacred).

What Poole had his student do was a occult ritual.

Christians, if you are real Christians should be outraged.

I demand Poole be fired and wonder about whom wrote the book and the publishing company that allowed this garbage into our colleges.

This is just the beginning of Christian persecution. Watch "The Moment After" a old, low budget movie on You Tube.

It's coming folks.

This is a precursor of things to come.

Stomp on Yeshua (Jesus) - and honor Muhammad, Allah and Krishna, the false prophets.

Poole and the whole administration of FAU should be fired.

This was like writing nigg** on a piece of paper and stomping on it.

America has truly embraced satanism. It is in our movies, books, even our sports "entertainment ceremonies".

IF you are a real Christian you will rise up and let your voices be heard that this is not acceptable.

If you are a milk toast / pretend Christian you will just ignore this slap on the face of Yeshua and ignore prejudice against Christianity.

Notice Professor Poole did not have his students write Muhammad, Allah, Buddha or Krisha - Poole and his text book singled out Jesus.

Nobody should disrespect another's religion as long as that religion is of love and getting along.

Yeshua spoke of love, not judging and keeping the Commandments of His Father.

FAU should be reprimanded. Their higher up administration should have reviewed the text book and Poole's "exercises".

We Christians, the real ones, are being discriminated against.

Our government and military are embracing satan.

Now it appears our colleges are like wise embracing satan.

This is not freedom of speech, it is discrimination of one religion, Christianity.

Yes, I've heard this sort of thing countless times before. It's kinda like "discrimination in the name of Christian compassion," isn't it? You can smile at us and hug us and put on airs of sympathy, but it still boils down to the following:

Gay people must not be protected from discrimination in the workplace.
Gay people must not be protected from discrimination in housing.
Gay people must not be protected from discrimination by businesses.
Gay people must not be included in existing hate crimes laws.
Gay people must not be allowed to teach in schools.
Gay people must not be allowed to serve in the military.
Gay people must not be allowed to adopt children.
And Gay couples must not be allowed civil unions, let alone marriage.

But remember, it's only because we LOVE you!!!

Yeah, RIGHT.

Anyone who can shoot a baby point blank in the face needs to go down, no matter what race he is. I think most African Americans would agree with me about that. That said, it's better not to make a big mention of the racial makeup of the people in this incident. When black people do evil things to white, racist people cry tons of crocadile tears and gleefully exploit the situation to promote their racist agenda. This is a good reason not to emphasize the race of the people involved. of course when white people do evil things, there's no reason to make a big deal of the race aspect either. (And if both victim and victimizer are white, they usually don't.)

As I have mentioned above, I am also related to the Tudors through Catherine Tudor of Berain, wife of Morris Wynne. My ancestor, George Wynns, settled in Virginia in the seventeenth century. Please do not let the different spellings of my great-grandmother Cowan's maiden name fool you; it is the same family. I am sorry your grand-uncle was killed by Henry Tudor; however, that was politics in the Middle Ages. Now, however, government operates differently. We live in a more enlightened age. God bless you and your family. Charles

I'm getting sick and tired of religious groups from the Taliban to Catholics, to Evangelical Christians expecting everyone else to accommodate their views.

Pretty soon every religious group in the country is going to want to have special exemptions.
Muslim women already want an exemption from having their photograph taken for a ID purposes.
Already a justice of the peace refused to marry an interracial couple because it was against his beliefs.
What next?
Are Quaker Pacifists going to want an exemption from paying taxes because some of the money goes to buy bombs and bullets
Are Catholic Employers going to be able to refuse to hire people who have been divorced.
Are Mormon employers going to have the right to deny employment to anyone who smokes or drinks?
Is a Evangelical Christian apartment owner going to have the right to refuse to rent to gay people?
Is a White Southern Christian college going to be allowed to refuse to admit black students or interracial couples?
Is a Jehovah Witness factory owner going to be allowed to fire people who take the day off to celebrate Christmas?

Religious people need to grow up!!! This is the United States. We have federal laws that supercede your religious beliefs.

Don't get the big idea that the government is going to allow you to perform animal sacrifice or female circumcision, marry more than one woman at a time, give your 8 year old daughter away in an arranged marriage, or withhold medical care from your children just because of your kooky religion says it's OK.

This is a heartbreaking tragedy and a freak accident. Over the last 10 years, Wyatt's parents earned the right to teach all three of my chidren to ride horses because of their intense focus on safety. My 7 year old son has played in that pile of sand with his friend Wyatt many times. Wyatt's father is never far away and always very conscious of what is happening on the property. Wyatt had just finished his own riding lesson where he cantered his 1200 pound horse around the field. There is no reason for any parent to have believed that this strong little boy could not handle any situation in a knee-high pile of sand. His father had been giving a riding lesson only yards away. The boys were within his sight and only moments earlier he had checked on their play. These freak accidents happen in split seconds and should not be blamed on a parents inattention.

I commend you for changing the title of the story. His 5 year old brother can never be blamed. And for anyone who believes that his parents own any fault here...please hope that no one ever judges you for the multitude of times TODAY that you took your eye off your child with confidence. We will all keep a closer eye now while we Pray for the entire family!!!!

The GOP may not "Go Gay" anytime soon ... but sooner or later they'll have to come to grips with the fact that vilifying Gay Americans is no longer a vote-getter for them. Back in 2009 a CBS News survey found that while only 18% of Americans over the age of 65 supported marriage equality for Gay couples, 41% of American under the age of 45 supported it. That was FOUR YEARS AGO, and the generational shift in attitudes among young people toward their Gay friends and family members is accelerating. Even conservative columnist Andrew Stuttaford grudgingly acknowledged this: "I fully understand (even if I do not agree with) the idea that same-sex unions are a threat to conventional marriage and I fully understand those who argue that opposition to gay marriage is a fundamental principle too important to be abandoned for reasons of political expediency, but these findings should, I reckon, at least be some sort of warning to those who assume that the GOP's current position on this issue will continue to be a vote-winner."

I sincerely doubt it. And to suggest otherwise is simply another tiresome "slippery-slope" strategy to vilify law-abiding, taxpaying Gay individuals and couples. To equate love and commitment amongst compatible Gay couples with the deliberate sexual victimization of children is utter reprehensible.

What a load of trite.

Regardless of whether the sexual attraction to children is referred to as a 'sexual orientation', 'disorder' or 'paraphilia', the act will not be accepted for the simple reason that it can destroy the life of an innocent child. Homosexuality is no more comparable to pedophilia than heterosexuality. To compare pedophilia to the normal variations of human sexuality utterly diminishes the extent of trauma and pain involved in abuse. A pedophile's right to have his attraction to children accepted or acknowledged will always be disregarded for the sake of the child's interests. Psychiatric professional bodies have already made clear that a desire to have sex with another consenting adult, regardless of gender, is a healthy, normal and natural expression of human sexuality, whereas pedophilia is a mental disorder that involves adults fantasising about or indeed committing actual sexual abuse. In this instance, psychiatric bodies distinguish between healthy/harmless expressions of human sexuality, and sexual expression that harms others.

Accepting the empirical reality that, unfortunately, some adults will always be predisposed to pedophilia does not mean that the act of sexual abuse will be accepted. Even if a desire to have sex with children were to be termed 'sexual orientation', that would not normalise or dignify the act of rape.

You quoted the article as saying "Being a pedophile is different from being a child molester", which is quite correct. The clinical definition of paedophilia does not require any particular behaviour; it can be diagnosed on the basis of sexual attraction alone.

But then you go on to comment: "I found this comment and this ‘expert’ opinion rather disturbing because pedophilia is acting as a child molester, at least if they act on their desires. While having an attraction for young kids is disturbing, acting on the desire or temptation is child molestation and makes that person a pedophile."

In case English is your second language, I'll reiterate: paedophilia is an attraction, not an action.

I'm not sure why you've added scare quotes to the word expert. Are you suggesting that 'expertise' is no substitute for your (God given?) wisdom, or simply that anybody who studies anything at all is worthy of nothing but ridicule?

I'm disturbed by your 'Catholic' lynch mob mentality. It seems irreconcilable with the Gospels.
