The St. Mary Child Care Center Program Director plans, organizes, implements, coordinates, and controls services of the child care program, exercising independent judgment and decision-making reflective of the Felician Sisters’ Core Values for Ministry (Respect for Human Dignity, Compassion, Justice & Peace, Solidarity with the Poor, and Transformation). Under general supervision, the Program Director operates the center in accordance with the State of Michigan Department of Human Services Child Care Licensing Rules. The Program Director works to maintain as many program stars as possible under the Great Start to Quality program.

Responsibilities include overall management of the center’s infant, toddler, and preschool programs, as well as its facilitation of and planning and coordinating of the children’s educational programs and activities. The Program Director works with staff to facilitate their teaching of early childhood care and strives for program excellence.

The Program Director assists in developing, promoting, and implementing the Strategic Plan, schedules and manages staff members, and supports the Administrator by implementing and managing efficient and effective administrative, educational, financial, and quality care practices.

The Program Director works closely with the Business Manager in arriving at a realistic and balanced annual budget. The Program Director maintains actual expenses within budget.

The Program Director contributes to the collaborative decision-making process and leads in the planning, implementing and evaluating of the Center’s goals. The Program Director is directly responsible to the FSCCC Administrator for the performance of his or her duties.

• Work to provide access to quality child care for all, especially those in financial need as a reflection of Solidarity with the Poor

Educational Leadership
• Follow the National Catholic Education Association’s (NCEA) National Standards and Benchmarks for Effective Catholic Elementary and Secondary Schools
• Plan, develop, schedule, and provide in-service training
• Educate teachers to prepare for constructive, healthy conferences with parents
• Create instructional resources for use in the classroom
• Develop academic or program excellence outcomes
• Monitor children and teachers for progress
• Hire, train, encourage, supervise, and mentor teachers and other staff
• Work actively with teachers to maintain high curriculum standards
• Establish performance goals and objectives
• Visit classrooms and observe teaching and care methods to provide timely and constructive feedback
• Examine learning materials
• Review instructional objectives and adjust accordingly

Managerial Leadership
• Develop a professional staff committed to teamwork and camaraderie in mission
• Attend and participate in required meetings, workshops, and committees
• Provide avenues for families to get to know teachers
• Manage day-to-day activities
• Engage staff in shared decision-making as appropriate
• Prepare and monitor budgets
• Respond to procedural questions
• Meet with other administrators, parents, and community organizations
• Participate in the hiring process of new staff, mindful to look for candidates who reflect the center’s core values
• Order and maintain child care supplies and equipment
• Prepare reports for the Board of Directors that reflect implementation of the Strategic Plan
• Adhere to the Conflict Resolution Policy to resolve conflicts
• Evaluate all aspects of the program together with staff members and Mission Leader and take necessary steps to implement improvement
• Report to Child Protective Services as required under mandated reporting laws

Job Requirements
• A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree (Master’s Degree preferred) with a major in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, or related field.
• Two to four years of professional teaching experience with infants, toddlers and/or preschoolers
• A minimum of one year of supervisory experience, including classroom leadership responsibility or professional administration experience in a child care center
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Excellent customer service skills
• An understanding of accreditation and licensing standards
• Strong organizational skills
• Computer literacy required
• Experience working in an inclusive work environment and managing across differences
• Criminal background check
• Comply with all Program Director qualifications required by the State of Michigan child care licensing rules
