Catholic Charities of Kansas City/St. Joseph in Missouri is searching for a new CEO who will lead and grow our agency into the future to enable it to continue to respond to the Gospel mandate to care for the vulnerable in our community. The person chosen will be an effective communicator, a compassionate collaborator and will have a command of, and respect for, all Catholic Social Teachings. This professional must have at least an accredited university master’s degree or equivalent, a minimum of five years of senior management experience in a relevant setting and a solid business capacity to lead an agency with over a $10 Million budget. A comfort level in multi-cultural settings is also desired.

Responsibilities

The CEO is responsible for the operation of the Agency in strict fidelity with the Board’s Ends and other policies.

The CEO shall create and or maintain programs that achieve the Board’s Ends directed at specified groups and individuals. These programs shall promote Catholic social doctrine using application forms that gather only appropriate and lawful information; use methods that protect client confidentiality; that establish clear understanding with clients of the services provided; without undue delay in providing services; and provide a way for clients to be heard if they feel un-accommodated.

The CEO must provide all services and programs via the use of paid staff and volunteers. The CEO shall establish, promote and require conditions that are safe, dignified, and clear for paid staff and volunteers. These conditions shall include written personnel policies, protect individual from discrimination, allow staff to grieve to the Board, and acquaint staff with the CEO’s interpretation of their protections.

The CEO must establish and use multi-year fiscal plans and tools to operate the Agency in accordance with the Board’s Ends and other Policies. There must be a balanced budget and contingencies in place that avoid placing the Agency’s finances, legal standing, and internal and external reputation in jeopardy. The budget shall specify anticipated revenue, contract costs and revenues, and both direct and indirect operating expenditures. Additionally the CEO will establish plans and systems with respect to employee and other stakeholder compensation that are consistent with market conditions.

The CEO must establish plans that ensure and provide for emergency CEO succession in order to protect the Board and Agency in the event of CEO absence.

The CEO must establish plans, contingencies, and mechanisms that protect and minimize the risks to all Agency assets. These plans, contingencies, and mechanisms insure against theft, improper wear and tear on equipment, protect Agency, staff, and the Board against unnecessary exposure to claims of liability, and protect the Agency’s public image.

The CEO will communicate with and support the Board. The CEO shall regularly attend and participate in Board meetings. The CEO will provide timely and accurate reporting using formal and informal methods. Specifically the CEO will provide on a set schedule, the Monitoring Reports required by the Board. The CEO shall coordinate fund raising activity with the Agency’s sister organization, Catholic Charities Foundation, and report same to the Board. Additionally other less formal communication will be provided to the Board as specified by the Board.

The CEO shall exercise executive powers as the Agency By-Laws require and permit, as directed by the Board. The CEO shall initiate and respond to communications of the Bishop, as sole member of the Agency Corporation, consistent with Agency By-Laws and pursuant to Board direction. Any such communications may be subject to disclosure to the Board. (364)
