Boy….if the Catholic Church is that afraid of a book like Angels and Demons, it is really in big trouble. I have read the book and everything by Dan Brown, and I think this foolishness about anti catholicism is “over the top”. It’s the control that the Church tries to impose on people’s reading habits, bedroom habits, and lifestyles that makes it truly ofensive to rational thinking people.
Wait. What did you say Lynn? Well, if you’re a Christian, I can’t believe what I just read.
First, Bill Donohue is not the Catholic Church. Second, neither Donohue nor the Church is trying to force people not to read Dan Brown’s books. Donohue is expressing his interpretation of a story and his belief that the story presents falsehoods about Catholicism. He’s also commenting on what he sees as anti-Catholicism in our popular culture. Maybe he’s wrong about the story, the motives of its creators, and anti-Catholicism in our culture. Catholics are certainly free to think so. Indeed, many Catholics do find Donohue over-the-top.
On the 500th Anniversary of Henry VIII’s crowning, Catholics continue to spread their warped religion around the world, controling people’s lives for no reason other than their own power. Time for the work of the reformation to continue…
Phoebe, we are here to engage in a dialogue. The Catholic Church’s mere existence stems from God and since God is love, anything and everything the Chruch teaches and believes is out of love. We appreciate your input but next time maybe try to put something of subtance behind your remarks because your comments come across more as ignorant than engaging.
Chad, thank you for clarifying the position of the Catholic Church. The Church is also the Body of Christ, and since Christ is the Truth, she stands in defence of truth. Dan Brown’s work has a problem with falsified facts, whether in the field of physics, the Church practices of celibacy, history, or the relationship of the Church with science. The problem is that most people are miseducated to believe that Catholicism is the root of all evil, and that she promotes ignorance. Then they are all too ready to fall for Dan Brown’s so-called facts without taking the time to investigate them.
Browns’ novels also aid lapsed Catholics who are living immoral lives to assuage their consciences by attacking the Church.
Beautiful Leticia, People want so much freedom and don’t realize the choices we make have consequences. When things don’t go right, we’re quick to blame God.. Had we not followed the laws of the Church, approved by Christ through it’s infallibility, we would not be living in a self-destructive state. We must pray for peace and love and for the conversion of souls.
And pray no one be misled by any false beliefs of the Church.
