KATH ‘Year for Priests’ Radiothon: Please Help?
March 8, 2010
A message from GRN:
I hope your Lent is going well and that you’re enjoying this warmer weather we’ve been blessed with the last couple of days.
Just a quick note to remind you that the KATH 910 AM ‘Celebrating the Year for Priests’ Spring Radiothon is less than three weeks away. It will be Tuesday, March 23rd through Friday, March 26th from 8am-7pm each day. We will try to raise the necessary funds to keep KATH on the air for the next six months.
In addition to calling in with a donation during the Radiothon if you’re able and praying for a successful event, please consider helping in one of the following ways.
1. We will need many volunteers to help answer phones during the Radiothon. There will be two shifts each of the four days. One will be from 8:00am-1:30 p.m. and the other will be from 1:30 p.m.- 7:00 p.m. If you can help please let me know which day and shift you can help. We’ll provide food and drinks and a prayerful environment. If you can help, please call 888-784-3476 and ask for Lisa.
2. If you are able to provide a matching gift for the Radiothon please prayerfully consider doing so. These are gifts of between $1,000-$10,000 that are given before the Radiothon that are used to to challenge listeners to match during the Radiothon. Please email me at davepalmer@grnonline.com if you are able to do this.
Thanks so much for your support. North Texas has been very supportive of Catholic Radio on the Guadalupe Radio Network and we truly appreciate everything you do to help keep the Truths of our Catholic faith on the air.
God bless you and your family,
Dave Palmer
General Manager

A flyer on Dr. Richard Gaillardetz
March 2, 2010
Someone has been doing some additional research on Dr. Richard Gaillardetz (pronounced gah-lard-eez), the University of Toledo ‘theologian’ who will be the speaker at the upcoming Lenten retreat being held at St. Mark the Evangelist in Plano. Although I have been quite concerned about bringing Dr. Gaillardetz to speak on marital (or several other) matters, this is not my work. Check this out:

I know that a number of people have been concerned about this conference, and the defense that “he’s a theologian, it’s a theologian’s job to question the Church” doesn’t hold water, in particular his views on ‘non-traditional married unions’ and contraception. Given that one primary topic Dr. Gaillardetz will be discussing is the Sacrament of Matrimony, it’s a good bet that questions on the Church’s doctrine on contraception and gay marriage will come up. Will Dr. Gaillardetz present the Church’s infallible doctrine on these subjects clearly, or will he interpret it through dissenting beliefs? That’s a serious question, and judging from his commentary on this blog, it’s not one that I think can be answered positively from an orthodox viewpoint.
I had read, with great dismay, this weekend Gaillardetz’ argument that items not dogmatically defined by Church councils, but those traditional items believed by the Church that are defined through the Magisterium and through certain Papal authorities (the ordinary universal magisterium) may not constitute truly infallible teachings, but only are infallible insofar as they remain ‘uncontroversial.’ Once they become ‘controversial,’ these teachings would no longer be infallible. My jaw hit the floor when, being pressed by another theologian, Dr. Lawrence Welch, Dr. Gaillardetz asserted that even such a part of the ordinary universal magisterium as the RESURRECTION could become controversial, and, thus, fallible, if it became controversial. In essence, anything that is not dogmatically and specifically defined by a Church council could become a fallible, less than certain doctrine of the Church. Anything. And who typically generates this controversy? Why, theologians, like Dr. Gaillardetz! One could wonder at the emotions in play as a theologian arrogates to himself and other theologians the authority to dictate the doctrine of the Church.
Dr. Gaillardetz shares this view with one of his heroes and mentors, Richard McBrien, that well known Notre Dame ‘theologian’ and dissenter from too many Church doctrines to list. Both have argued it would be reasonable to replace the current magisterium with one consisting of…….wait for it……theologians! It’s nothing if not ironic.
This may sound like a small thing, but it’s huge. As I’ve read more on Gaillardetz, I’ve become convinced that he thinks all teachings of the Church, save for those dogmatically defined in a Church council, are up for grabs, in a sense, and subject to a continuing reevaluation based on the mores of the faithful at the time. It is very hard not to see this as moral relativism. I’m not the only one who sees Gaillardetz views of the authority of the Church in the magisterium as a view tending towards legitimizing cafeteria catholicism.

Golf Pro Talks About Love and Life
February 20, 2010
DALLAS, TX (MetroCatholic) – Good news on the horizon for the sports community. America is seeking a role model to believe in – someone kind, generous, humble, fun, adventurous and loving. Thankfully, Peggy Nelson, widow of golf great, Byron Nelson, brings us a memoir of a man, who was not only a champion golf pro, but also a godly family man who lived life to the fullest. In her upcoming release, Life with Lord Byron, Peggy invites golf pros to chime in with fond memories of Lord Byron Nelson.
“One thing I remember that Byron told me was to be good to the game and give back. Byron gave strength in time of weakness, courage in time of fear, and love in time of doubt. To sum him up, Byron Nelson always looked for the best in others and always gave the best he had.”
Ken Venturi- Professional Golfer and Friend
Peggy’s stories about Lord Byron serves as a great reminder that integrity, clean living and genuine love all remain after a man is gone, reviving pride in the sports community. These anecdotes make her a perfect interview guest for February, the month of Love. From fun-loving moments between family members to quiet serene moments with colleagues on the course, audiences will be inspired as they learn about the character of golf’s greatest gentleman. Peggy recounts a poignant memory:
“We were so delighted with each other and having such grand times right off that it won’t surprise anyone to know we celebrated everything we could think of in those first few weeks. In fact on December 15, just one month after our wedding, I made a special dinner for us at home. As we sat at our beautiful dining room table and opened the ‘anniversary’ cards we had chosen for each other, Byron announced, ‘I want to celebrate our anniversary every month, sweetheart, because I’ll never have enough time with you.’ What a dear man! And so we did all through the months and years that the Good Lord gave us.”
A writer by profession, Peggy assisted Byron in the writing of his autobiography. She continues to help manage Byron Nelson’s Fairway Ranch in Roanoke, Texas. She plays golf, enjoys flower gardening, tends her chickens, plays piano, attends Bible classes, volunteers at the new Byron Nelson High School, and serves as a greeter at her church.

Each day, little babies begin to grow, and wiggle and kick inside their mothers – but, for far too many, this life experience is all they will know. They will never feel simple graces like the warm touch of their mother’s arms, the cool wind blowing through their hair on a magnificent summer’s day, nor even the first light of their coming into the world. You can help change all that.
Join keynote speaker Daniel Cardinal DiNardo, Archbishop of Galveston-Houston, and special guest Abby Johnson, former Planned Parenthood Director, in a celebration of life at the much- anticipated Bishop’s 17th Annual Catholic Pro-Life Dinner, to be hosted by the Most Reverend Kevin J. Farrell, D.D., Bishop of the Diocese of Dallas, on Saturday, April 10, 2010, at the Hilton Anatole in Dallas. The funds raised at this event will be critical for continuing the life-saving work of the Catholic Pro-Life Committee, the most comprehensive and organized diocesan pro-life organization in the country that was founded in the city where Roe v. Wade began. All dinner proceeds fund our nine life-saving ministries that provide supportive services for mothers, pro-life education, prayer, public witness and civic action to protect babies in danger of abortion and to build a culture of life.
Please welcome Cardinal DiNardo, Abby Johnson, and our Bishop’s Dinner honorary chairs, John & Patti Cody of St. Rita parish. We thank them for their dedication and commitment to life and to helping make this year’s Bishop’s Dinner a success.

Today We Mourn; Today We Fast; Today We Pray
January 22, 2010
(MetroCatholic) – On January 22, 1973 the United States Supreme Court legalized abortion.
Since then, MORE than FIFTY MILLION (about 50,500,000) babies have been aborted in the United States alone.
There are more abortions EACH year in the “Land of the Free” than there have been American lives lost in all wars and police actions put together.
While we boast that “all are created equal”, there are more abortions every day in this country than there were lives lost on September 11, 2001.
Today we mourn. Today we fast. Today we pray.
