|46 states as of Nov 2011, the District of Columbia, four territories, and the Department of Defense Education Activity have adopted the Common Core State Standards.|
I’ve shared previously about Obama-Core, Obama’s plan to overhaul the English curriculum across the country, through bypassing Congress and requiring students to read what he feels is literature rather than classic literature like Huckleberry Finn. Instead Obama would rather indoctrinate your children to learn about environmentalism as described by “Executive Order 13423: Strengthening Federal Environmental, Energy, and Transportation Management.” This new curriculum being tested and pushed on students across the country, is called “CSCOPE”, which is expected to be implemented nationwide.
According to Common Core 360 on November 3, 2011, Montana becomes the 46th state to officially adopt the Common Core State Standards. Virginia, Nebraska, Texas, and Alaska are the remaining states. Virginia and Nebraska were participants in creating the Standards, though they have not officially participated in their adoption.
However, CSCOPE is much worse than previously mentioned, besides “Obama-Core” teaching students a revision of history such as claiming the 9/11 hijackers were “freedom fighters” rather than terrorists, but it also lowers the standards and expectations for math and reading requirements for students.
Michelle Malkin has written extensively on CSCOPE, exposing the liberal inaccuracies being taught and the political agenda being forced on students in public schools. Her efforts to raise awareness are just the beginning of a fight against the government take over of our schools, our children’s minds and the curriculum which goes from teaching essential facts about history and literature to outright lies and fallacies.
In addition, Malkin explains that, ”Common Core’s dubious “college- and career”-ready standards undermine local control of education, usurp state autonomy over curricular materials, and foist untested, mediocre and incoherent pedagogical theories on America’s schoolchildren.”
In fact, Stanford University professor James Milgram, the only mathematician on the validation panel, concluded that the Common Core math scheme would place American students two years behind their peers in other high-achieving countries. In protest, Milgram refused to sign off on the standards. He’s not alone.
Professor Jonathan Goodman of New York University found that the Common Core math standards imposed “significantly lower expectations with respect to algebra and geometry than the published standards of other countries.”
Under Common Core, as the American Principles Project and Pioneer Institute point out, algebra I instruction is pushed to 9th grade, instead of 8th grade, as commonly taught. Division is postponed from 5th to 6th grade. Prime factorization, common denominators, conversions of fractions and decimals, and algebraic manipulation are de-emphasized or eschewed. Traditional Euclidean geometry is replaced with an experimental approach that had not been previously pilot-tested in the U.S.
