A Message from Bishop Farrell Regarding Trips to Honduras
July 4, 2009
Dallas, TX (MetroCatholic) – From the Dallas Diocesan site:
The U.S. State Department has issued an advisory cautioning citizens about the danger of travel to Honduras. The advisory “…recommends that American citizens defer all non-essential travel to Honduras until further notice.”
Numerous groups from the Diocese of Dallas have traveled to Trujillo in Honduras as part of our missionary outreach to the Church there, and I realize that some were planning to travel there this summer. However, given the current political instability of the country, I believe the risks are too great for any diocesan group to travel to Honduras.
Therefore, until further notice, all mission trips to Honduras should be cancelled.
Bishop Luis Solé of the Trujillo Diocese has expressed agreement with the decision, fully aware of the risks involved.
I encourage everyone to continue the relationship you have with your mission locations in Honduras, and I appreciate your understanding regarding this current crisis. Let us pray for a peaceful resolution to the upheaval in Honduras and for the safety and well being of our brothers and sisters who live there.
